Grizzlies Buyout Steve Frances

Postby Clueminati017 on Wed Jan 28, 2009 3:41 pm

The Memphis Grizzlies reached a buyout agreement and waived guard Steve Francis, Grizzlies' General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced today.

The 6-3, 210-pound guard has not appeared in a game with the Grizzlies or Houston Rockets this season after he was acquired from Houston on Dec. 24, 2008 along with Memphis’ own 2009 second round draft pick and cash considerations in exchange for a conditional 2011 second round draft pick.

...And the long road is getting more tougher for The Franchise to come back.

Meh, I doubt he will get any playing time this season. It's hard enough for him to get a contract, will be even harder to get playing time.

If he can latch on somewhere on a 10 day contract or two similar to Darius Miles then perhaps he can play his way into a more stable opportunity next season, if not sooner.

It's always a shame to see a former all-star have to bounce around between teams during the later stage of their career. Particularly one who has peeked so early... but who knows, he might find a team and be a valuable contributor again.

Miami seemed pretty interested in Marbury, I wonder if they will take a look at Francis?

It's a damn shame what's happening to Stevie. I still can belive how quick he declined from an all-star to being waved, what, 3 times now ? I hope he still has some gas left, he used to be one of my favorite players.

Maybe it's time for Stevie to play in Europe? I'm sure some teams would be interested in having him...Spanish league perhaps? It could be a good place for Francis for the moment.

I remember him not wanting to play for the Grizzlies when he was drafted. Ironic that he still doesn't want to play for them or vice versa. Rofl.

Good point. Supposedly three teams have a lot of interest in Marbury at the moment (namely the Heat, Mavericks and Celtics), if/when he signs with one of them, at least one of the other two might consider giving Francis a run instead.

Zaza Pachulia isn't that lame. At least he still has a contract and still gets regular playing time.
