Diop Traded To Bobcats For Carroll And Hollins

Story

The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they acquired guard Matt Carroll and center Ryan Hollins from the Charlotte Bobcats in exchange for center DeSagana Diop. “We are excited to add two young talents in Matt and Ryan to our roster,” said General Manager/President of Basketball Operations Donnie Nelson. “Over the course of his career, Matt Carroll has one of the best 3-point shooters in the league. Ryan is a versatile athletic center with a good up-side.” “We want to thank Sagana,” said Nelson. “He is hands down one of the classiest people I have ever known. His contributions both on and off the court will certainly be missed. The Mavericks’ family wishes him nothing but the very best.”

Seems to me that the Mavericks could have used Diop more than Carroll and Hollins (who's only appeared in 18 games this year) but I suppose they felt they needed to shake things up.

Diop will probably have another cry like he did when he was traded to NJ

Isn't the best move for Dallas, but at least it gets rid of Diop's bad contract

yep, it's essentially a contract dump which I believe opens up the Mavs mid-level exemption again....

But then you have to wonder why they bothered to sign Diop again in the first place.

He was good in the playoffs, and Oak Hill Academy.

Wait... That was Brandon Bass my bad. He was good in Oak Hill although he should've went to college before jumping to the NBA. Maybe Michael Jordan sees something in him that's ready to shine besides pursuing Chris Kaman.

Doesn't Matt Carrol have a nasty contract as well? If so i really don't understand the point of this trade.

I find this very nice ^^ I just thought about acquiring Carroll and Hollins on my NBA 2k9 association. I like Hollins and thought Carroll would give me a lift. But I didnt know who to trade for. Now I know ;)

Carroll as a contract pretty same as Diop, $5M for some years and Diop 6M per year, Hollins was just a cap balancer

I'm waiting for benji to respond to this thread.

Diop was supposed to be the difference maker for the Mavs and Matt Carroll is his favourite white player. How significant is this???

Well Hollins may be seen as a cap balancer. But he played 19 minutes against the 76ers and I really think he has some talent. His explosiveness is nice for a guy of his size and he can block shots and dunk the ball. When he becomes a better rebounder he could be a Tyson Chandler (without Paul -> weaker) guy.

Darko Milicic is white.

Diop has regressed back towards his Cleveland days for some reason. Which is why only Michael Jordan would trade for him.
