Trading Manu Ginobili?

Make no mistake about Ginobili's skill level — he's a bona fide super star. So, then, for whom could Ginobili be traded? Who could possibly duplicate what he does for San Antonio?

Obviously, guys like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Kobe Bryant are out of the question. So is Paul Pierce, who's rapidly approaching the 32nd anniversary of his birth. Perhaps someone like Gilbert Arenas, Baron Davis, Carmelo Anthony and Vince Carter could be had — but none of these guys fit Pop's unselfish game plan.

Would the Kings be willing to deal Kevin Martin (25)? Would Pop want anything to do with Tracy McGrady (29)?

Probably not.

Nor would the likes of Luol Deng (23), Gerald Wallace (26), or Rip Hamilton (30) be considered without additional inducements.

Indeed, the only semi-available player I'd trade Ginobili for would be Joe Johnson (27). Failing this, the Spurs would be advised to stand pat, hope that their elder statesmen can squeeze out another quality season, that Ginobili's rehab will be successful and that Roger Mason is a big surprise.

Moreover, having most recently won championships in 2003, 2005 and 2007, hopefully the Spurs should be the odds-on favorites to win again in 2009.

Getting Deng and Gordon from the Bulls could be nice, but also getting Joe Johnson could be nice too. But I'm not sure if I wanna let go of Ginobili. The fans in SA love him and he is one of the favorites. I don't know.

I don' t think Manu is worth any of these guys. He's a great player and all but in my eyes he is not a go to guy for a succesful team. He is the ideal 2nd or 3rd option.

Most Bulls fans were reluctant about trading Deng and Gordon for KOBE BRYANT, so trading them for Ginobili would be stupid, idiotic, unparalleled lunacy.

artest would have been nice for manu and bowwn. arte got scoroing ability of manu and defensive ability of bowen and kings would be getting more than what they got from the rockets.

i totally support what SAS's doing, to keep TD & TP as a core and trying to move manu for a change. if they can find a right piece to replace manu, sas will become even more of a serious threat to the top teams in the league.

his plays relies heavily on speed and he's already 31. and his ankle is somewhat questionable whether it will fully heal or not. and for sure there's still many teams that are interested to get him. so i don't see any reason SAS shouldn't consider trading him.

I would trade him. Sure, as much as I hate him, he is still a very valuable player, but the Spurs are no longer quite a championship team and Manu isn't getting any younger. I don't see this happening though.

I cant imagine watching manu in another team... i dont think spurs will trade him, i mean Manu was the one that put the spurs up there during the season, and not duncan (who did a great job later in the playoffs)!

I think most of you guys are seriously underrating Manu. Benji hit the nail on the head, Manu is better than Joe Johnson. He is EASILY a top 5 SG in the league, and when playing at his best, I don't know anyone who is better currently at the position.

When Manu gets hot, he gets hot. He can score from anywhere on the court, give you 20ppg with half the shots most superstars take. Making him the most efficient scorer in the league. He is unselfish, plays defense, hustles, and is a brings lots of momentum during games and playoff series. You guys have to remember he was injured in the playoffs last year, and was hurting during the season.

If he had the opportunity, im sure he would put up 25-30ppg, 7apg, 6rpg along with 2spg on a team being the first option.
