It's a possibility, but I don't see any of the top 8 Eastern teams dropping off, barring injuries, bad offseason moves or drastic improvement of their opponents. With Washington likely falling off next season, the Cavs will still have to contend with Atlanta, New York and Chicago, all of whom have a chance (though New York is the only one relatively close) at making the playoffs next year.
Getting LeBron won't help Darius Miles bulk up or fix up their lacklustre bench. Even without LeBron, the Cavs have talent, but it's either not utilised, doesn't fit their style of play, or consistently lost to injury. Of course, nothing is impossible, and you never know what might happen. Personally, I think it will take more than LeBron to get the Cavs back into serious playoff contention.
If they do get LeBron, their goal should be improving on last year, with making the playoffs an afterthought. It didn't do the Hawks much good to set their sights too high - unfortunately, they put money on their overconfidence. At least the season ticket holders got something out of the season.
