Suns sign Matt Barnes

Free-agent forward Matt Barnes is scheduled to arrive in Phoenix Monday, expecting to sign a one-year veteran's minimum deal with the Suns after completing a physical.

Barnes, 28, spent the last two seasons mostly in a reserve role with the Golden State Warriors. He collected a career-best 9.8 points and 4.6 rebounds in 2007. Last year, he averaged 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds in 19.4 minutes.

A steal for the minimum, IMO.

it seems like GS is making a HUGE change in their line-up, though i don't think it's really needed..

But are they? Swapping their star PG for a star SF and swapping a scrub bench player for a scrub bench player is revamping? And if you miss the playoffs, you would usually want to revamp your roster.

I love that guy, pretty inconsistent, but he really improved his game the last couple of years and he brings on a ton of energy every night. He can rebound, defend hard, shoot the 3pt, attack the basket, steal and block fairly well. I think he'll get along pretty well with the Phoenix type of plays.

Barnes rocks, and too think he almost gave up the NBA for NFL. He does like a bit of everything on the court.

Who's the star SF? If you're talking about Corey Maggette, he doesn't hold a candle to Mr. Davis.

Agree with Jing, he can do a bit of everything

Can defend and he showed so much energy, heart and balls in the last GSW playoffs.

I hope Porter use the bench, not like D'Antoni

Sure doesn't. (Y)

Although, definition of "star" would apply to Maggette, also.

I wouldn't even call Maggette as a star. He does a good job at getting to the line and is a solid second offensive option, but the man is turnover prone and I think his offensive repitoire is a bit lacking. Let's not talk about his defence either. With a body like his you'd expect him to be one of the more durable slashers in the game, however you can count on him not playing a good chunk of the season even if he does magically turn into a bonafide all-star that is capable of leading the team.

You'd think that with the way that I criticize Maggette I'd be a hater... But he's actually one of my favourite wing players.

not as much of a star as davis is, but will definatly hold down the sf role for a few seasons

j-rich flourished in stats in gsw, and i think maggette is an upgrade over j-rich w/o doubt. but how he will mix with others is a big question mark especially when they're w/o baron davis who was a leader and motivator.

I've always wondered, what's his dominant hand in basketball? When I watch him play, He shoots jumpshots with his right, but I see him drive and finish/dunk predominantly with his left. He seems to do a LOT more moves going left than with his right.

Richardson had pretty similar stats to Maggette and he was in Charlotte last season. So it's pretty much a moot point you're making. Maggette and Richardson are pretty much second fiddle swingmen that can help keep the defence on sagging on a main offensive weapon, I doubt they can carry a team on their back.

yeah, j-rich and maggette are not the type that can lead the team to victory singlehandedly. but i think maggette is a better version of j-rich. he gets to foul line more often and possess more potential.

as for the suns, i think this year's gonna be their best shot @ championship or should decline rather quick. so i hope shaq gets nash a ring and retire. it'd be a great ending tho i'm not a fan of both. :D

Maggette is two years older than Richardson. Richardson is also a better perimeter player.

I'd take Richardson over Maggette in that he's a much better shooter than Maggette. Both have similar skillsets though.

...Well since when has Maggette played a significant role in a winning season? Last time I checked the He's too much of an injury-proned player to have a season-long impact anyway. Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention that Maggette has played in only 12 playoff games, and that was WITH Elton Brand by his side.

i didn't say maggette did all that.

just think maggette could be a better mix for the winning formula for more teams including gsw.

Well I just find it hard to believe that a player with so many faults can be such a key piece to making any positive contributions to a team, that's all.
