Well, he made it offical. The greatest pure Point guard in NBA history has decided its time to hang it up. Thank you John Stockton, I doubt there will ever be a player who was able to give his teamates such good looks at scoring throughout a career like you had.

Stockton says he's planning to retire

With Stockton's retirement made official, it will be interesting to see if Malone stays in Utah, moves elsewhere, or follows suit and calls it a career.

Not much I can really say about John Stockton, his career speaks for itself. Like Malone, he's proof that some of the greatest players enter the league with little fanfare, though I'm sure if both came into the league with high expectations, they would still have exceeded them.

I think it's more or less official, at least that's how it's being reported. Obviously, he hasn't handed in the retirement papers and he reserves the right to change his mind, but it seems that this is it.

well done to Stockton for all that he's done for the game of basketball. As for Malone he will stay in the league a few more years yet, i read the other day that he might go to the kings next year.

Malone and C-Webb in the same frontcourt? Not a bad frontcourt, though somehow I don't see it actually happening. Then again, I said that about all the Jordan comeback rumours back in 2001.

Malone if he's smart will not go to the Kings,Lakers, or Spurs..he can do much more if he heads to Dallas and toughens up their front court. In Sac. he would have to come off the bench and neither him or Webber are big enough to guard Shaq nor do I think they could coexist.

Malone's best situation would be the Lakers, whose weak PF position really could use a boost, and playing alongside Kobe and Shaq increases the chances at a title by a mile. San Antonio wouldn't be a bad situation either, a Malone-Duncan frontcourt would be one of the best in the league if not the best (same with Malone-Shaq obviously).
Minnesota could be a nice situation too, I think adding Malone would definately boost Minny in the standings, but a title might be out of reach.

well jermaine oneal has expressed interest in san antonio
so i think the spurs would spend there money on him than malone.

as for lakers........hell yer!!
apparentley scottie pippen and gary payton wanna go there also

imagine if it was possible
shaq,malone,pippen,kobe,payton.................LOL
too dominant!!
pity lakers couldnt sign em all though!

I think Gary said he wanted to go to his homeboys in Oakland, which is the home of the Golden State Warriors. They can realy use him if Arenas goes exit, and yeah, Malone isnt the only veteran interrested in the Lakers, Pip aswell. Phil want him back so he will most likely end up in LA

Damn, that would be a hell of a front court. $$$ cap wouldn't make that happen. Unless Pip, Malone, and Payton take a huge pay cut.

I don't think Malone would be too keen to take on a lesser role, which is what he would be doing in Los Angeles and Sacramento. If he's considering options outside of Utah because they are not prepared to offer him what he thinks he's worth, I doubt he'd sign elsewhere for the minimum.

I could see Scottie Pippen possibly going to the Lakers, but I doubt Malone and GP would follow suit.

Yeah Andrew....i got faith that they will win though....sure as hell hope they do

but yeah...I dunno...i had read sumthin bout Malone talkin about him wanting to go to the Lakers...i searched alot for that story but cudnt find it

but ill keep tryin....his main goal is to win a ring before he leaves...and if the Lakers can win this year...i wud think that wud be an option..i also doubt GP goin to the lakers....even though the thought makes me smile...anyways no harm no foul in hopin :wink:

I also heard rumour that Malone needs to average at least 20 pts per game for the next 2 seasons to beat Kareem's total pt record. So, if he goes to LA that wouldn't be possible. He'll have to decide whether he wants a ring vs nba record.

Point taken, but Mitch Richmond's career had been in decline since his trade to the Wizards, while the Mailman and the Glove are still among the best at their position. They are still at a point in their careers where they could improve a team's chances at winning a title, rather than just riding someone else's coattails.

Before he coached Utah, he compiled a 93-121 record as coach of the Chicago Bulls. That doesn't explain the different records though.
