Ray Allen Officially Retires

Postby Andrew on Wed Nov 02, 2016 10:08 pm

Another player from the 90s officially gone, though I think most people were taking it as read. Speaking of reading, he's written a letter to his younger self, which has been published in The Players' Tribute.

With all that Stephen Curry's done the past couple of seasons, Allen's arguably starting to become overlooked as far as his shooting prowess is concerned. He has to be considered one of the best shooters in league history though; Curry's coming for his records, but he's part of some elite company as far as three-point marksmen are concerned. As with KG, it was great to see him get a ring with the Celtics in 2008. It's just a shame his departure wasn't on the best of terms.

Not a bad athlete, either. I'd say he has Curry beat in that department, at least.

How many active players that are drafted in the 90s are left? I can only think of Dirk, Pierce and Carter is there anyone else?

EDIT: Wikipedia has it all... Anyway, sad to see another legend retired..

Wondering if Kobe, Duncan, KG, and Allen will all enter the Hall in 2021. That class suddenly became more interesting.

that's what you do when you fail to get a contract with a championship caliber team. Wasn't it rumored that Ray Allen considered signing with the Warriors?

I won't forget the moment that he scored a 3-pointer against Lakers to break the record of Reggie Miller. It was amazing. Crowd erupted.

Being in his 40s would also have something to do with it, as would having a couple of rings already. There were rumours about him alternatively joining the Cavs or Warriors in recent years, but obviously nothing came of it.
