Live 2001 and XP... problems

Sun Apr 22, 2007 7:52 pm

On my previous 533mhz pc and windows xp Live 2001 ran smoothly, or better yet without problems. Now that I try to play on this new laptop, it runs ok, but the game freezes for a second in about five second intervals. Anyone else have similar problems and/or solutions for this? I really like this game and want to play it again.

hardware problems, videocard probably, compatibility issues?

Yea, I have no idea. The game lets me use full details and runs smoothly but it does the freezing thing. Everything else seems to be ok. I'll try a re-install later today.

None of those worked?

Haven't got around trying... actually I just hate this kind of adjusting.

I got Live 2001 to work properly now, these are the things I did:

1. I made a new specific hard drive partition in FAT32 format, especially for older games.

2. Downloaded and installed omegadrivers.

3. Checked that all visual themes and other special attributes were checked off on the .exe file, also just to be sure applied the compatibility mode.

Try not applying compatibility mode and see if it works also. Just curious.

I don't think compatibility mode does jackshit with any games, it's never worked for me.

It works.

I cant get it to work in XP. Any way to make this game work without messing around with the partitions?

Install Windows 98.

come on man...is there really no way to play this on xp?

Do what Tuomas did.
Read the thread.
If you don't want to create a FAT32 partition then no go.

Just as a test...I installed live 2001 on my usb drive(stupid, I know but i cant afford to format any of my partitions) which is FAT32. and downloaded the omega drivers. but I dont know how to edit the nbawin.exe file.

Right click the .exe file and click properties. There should be the options needed.

I don't think an usb drive is a good choice since the data transfer should be heaps slower. But if you are planning to play other older games as well, I suggest the hd partition, I just gave mine 2gb of space.

Yes I was aware of the fact that its gonna be really slow. But I wanted to check first it the file format system works before I make a partition. Ill try your method once again. Thanks for replying!

No problem, good thing you found help here. I myself keep checking in here in case someone released a patch or two for this game

Tue Dec 18, 2007 9:20 pm

I'll release an updated roster patch. If you're willing to wait for three years.

With EA's series improvement speed, I still might be playing old games. I'll remember that one ^

Fri Dec 21, 2007 2:31 am

Oh shite. Better start working on that patch.

Do not try the partition way or whatever you want to call it. Just replace the nbawin.exe with a german or spanish version of that application. The english version does not really work on xp. See for yourself. It will work out and it's a lot of fun!

I've never actually had any problems running NBA Live 2001 on XP and I'm running the English version of the game.
