Was NBA LIVE 2000 the Greatest?

Tue Oct 03, 2006 1:18 pm

Yes I realize the game is 7 years old and the technology has far been surpassed, but I still have fond memories of NBA LIVE 2000. Think about it, Dynasty was introduced that year, Jordan was in the game again, the Create-A-Team feature was implemented (and never heard from again), and the interface actually seemed custom made, not some port off a console. I played NBA LIVE until 2002 when NBA LIVE 2003 came out, but I still have the game too this very day and would never discard it beacuse I truly believe, it was one of the best LIVES ever made.

I would say it's a toss up between Live 2000 and Live '98.

live'98 didn't have the dynasty thing.

great gameply though, but my opinion is live 2000 was by far the best and isn't easily surpassed. coz of the dynasty feature though.

still could be improved, like if only if the players blocking the shots didn't fly so high ABOVE the rim and if the pg scored on the fastbreak if there is a clear lane.

but noticably, my pg started to score on fastbreaks with clear paths to lane, which is like a first in so many years of playing the game- wierd. maybe its just for a short time before the gods switch it back..

but its pretty realistic, players have consistent traits, some of my players are streaky shooters, some need a few shots before getting into the rhythm, and genuinely stars have differrent playing styles.

pretty kewl (Y)

I really like 2004 still. I'm thinking about reinstalling it.

Electronic Arts hasn't come close to producing a simulation basketball game as substantive, realistic nor as nuanced as Live 2000. I understand that some of the old Sega 2k hoop games & the more recent ESPN NBA series compare favorably to 2000 . . . but as to any later entry in the NbA Live series itself? Not even close. In fact, it's rather unfortunate that the Live series has regressed so relative to its simulation capacities. EA apparently holds its market share producing graphically titillating software for the youth market -- more power & profit to them, I suppose. Me, I'll keep playing my scratched 2000 long as these eyes can see.

When released, Live 2000 was the best compared to it's time in my opinion. None of the furure Lives had such and impact, either one of them disappointed in some aspect whereas 2000 didn't.

I bought NBA-live games from 95 to 2006, I think 2000 is the best. Everytime when I was so exciting to play the newest NBA-live game, but disappointed.
I won`t buy 2007 any more.

Again if realistic simulation is what moves you in a hoop game, Electronic Arts has come no closer to the heights of excellence than Live2000.

If digitized graphics, arcade gameplay and tricky options are what the consumer seeks, then the later Lives are fine.

Game programming is a balancing act, I take it -- to offer the player/consumer in-depth, challenging simulation, the programmer may "skimp" on the fx bells and whistles. And vice versa.

Not to say that it is impossible: my understanding is that EA's Madden football series is chalk full of substantive simulation options and spectacular graphics. Yet there is more money invested in Madden than in Live, as there's more money to be made via Madden in Football Nation. The marketplace shapes the game.

I only wish, as a pc/hoops guy, that I were able to choose between purchasing the ESPN/old Sega 2k series & Live. I do believe that viable competition between the gamemakers would heighten the quality of both products. But, until that de-monopolized day arrives for the pc-using hoop heads: Live 2000 forever, my friends.

yeh, i have '95 thru 2006 lives but i only play 2000. i hope there will be an updated roster soon

There is no updates for the 07 season yet. The guy who used to make them I guess was "retired" so to say.
I do find 2000 great, but is 06 playing well too? I mean it may not have the customization of 2000 but the game play is somewhat acceptable compared to 07.

So, the consensus on Live '07 is that the game is garbage? Too simplistic, too arcade-y, or what?

Shout.

NBA LIVE 2000 is the only basketball game I've ever respected. I play it today and I find it hard to believe there will ever be a basketball game as good as this.

live 2000 is best

i have played these games since 95 and 2000 is by far the best. i'm dissapointed that alexboom isn't going to update rosters for this year. i hope someone picks up the ball and runs with it

Sun Dec 24, 2006 2:52 am

Fully agreed. Did Alex formally make that announcement?

If so, Alex, you may want to re-think that call, man. How about a comeback . . . like Jordan in the Garden . . . wearing the 4-5 & dropping double nickels. What's up, Boom?
