superstar level

well, now I don't have to play the game as much as I would like to but I managed to make a whole season (32 games + playoffs 1-3-3-3 format in 2 min quarter) with the NT patch with the French Team of course, 10th seeded according to game ratings

I finished the season with 29-3, losing against Australia (2nd game of the season, I wasn't really ready), Turkey (they simply had a very great D on me plus they were very good in offense) and Greece (wasn't high concentrated on the game)
On the other side I beat USA & Yugoslavia in regular season, plus in playoffs (2-1 each) to win the title, as mentionned in my thread in Live 2000 franchise.

I'd like to know players : in superstar level, do you remain undefeated all the time ? Or did it happen that you sometimes lose as I did ?
I want to know if I'm a bad player or not ! :P
I got some problem with free throws, the game is jerked (dunno if it's the right word, wanna mean slow and not fluid, "saccadé" in french) so I got about 85% with TP, hardly 60% with Weis (phantom menace, as good as shaq in FT) but about 40% with Rigaudeau (which shall be far better) that was a disaster !

The other thing is that about 80% of the points I score are made by a shot fake, the defensive player jumps, and I go to the open layup or dunk. And as the shot fake works only for TP & Rigaudeau in french team, they score almost of the points of the team...
I don't manage to enter the paint with power forwards & centers, but french big men are not very talented in scoring and ball handling that's true.
Even open 3's hardly go in. In the middle of the season I was quite ok but in the playoffs it seems that i lost the tip, rigaudeau might have been at 1-15 on 3pt's...
It's the same for fastbreaks, it's hard to score on fb because the defensive player is always quicker. I remain sometimes to score on fb by forcing the defensive to remain on the other side of the basket, but it ain't easy at all and above all frustrating to see that your players are always slower, as if the CPU was cheating (and the CPU may be cheating on quickness I assume)
It's the same for pick'n roll : impossible to do some it seems. when a player is double teamed, the open player don't go to the basket, he doesn't move at all so when I pass the ball the defensive player is already on him so I can't do anything.

though, Live 2000 is a great game and I take pleasure to make this season.

I'd like to know if you have some tips guys, to improve the enjoying of the game :D

I don't play with the NT patch but when I play the game I just try to play it like in real life.

My problem was always that I had to many turnovers (15-20) cause I like the run 'n' gun style. To minimize the amount of turnovers I had to change the way of playing a bit so I decided to look at the playbook. There are many strategies but I only found 1 or 2 that really works. The one I use the most is called Quick Hitters 6. This one is for the SF. The two others are Sidline 2 (for SG) and Turnout 9 (for SF). But as in real life if you only play these systems every time you got the ball the defense knows it. So I often use Pick 'n' Roll to get a open shot or play Pick 'n' Roll. If you have a good PF or C just post up and use a fadeaway or running hookshot. When I was new to the game I also did that shot fake but it's like you're cheating cause no real player would jump every time. So now I got a pretty good mix between fast breaks and controled set play and my turnovers are around 10-15.

With me, I just hit the playcall button once when I have the ball and a big man automaticly comes out to set a pick for me, then he rolls :D

Yes, this works great in network play against human players, Alex. This is very tricky. you have many variations in pick and roll like they do in NBA.

Against computer A.I., I try it in a little bit different way.

1. Review the roster matcups between players. Find a faster guy than the opponent.

2. Get the ball from teammate and don't move yet.

3. call pick and roll and wait for the big guy to come and setup a screen.

4. pass to the player and hold that pass button.

5. run around him like hell while holding that button.

6. your two defenders are stupid enough to get stuck.

7. let go of the pass button and get the ball.

8. Do whatever you want now since you have enough room. Dunk, layup, leaning jumper, fade away, and pass maybe? :D

The perfect example for this would be KG in Minesota. He can score in every possesion for ya no matter who the defender is. If you play franchise mode, or NT patch, you can still find a good player for that strategy.

The faster and quicker player is, the better you can score. The slower and dumber(defensive awareness maybe)the defender is, the better chances. If the dunk rating is over 97 and the height is over 6'8'', it's perfect. 99.9%. It works even when there is Pippen of the Bulls comes for switch. :)

Tha'ts right. But some A.I. players do not always jump. I'm not sure if it's got to do with defensive awareness or what.

Sometimes they never jump but they are clever enough to jump right when I try to shoot. pity I just jump pass to other players then.. lol

btw I try the shot fake in every game. Computers cheat too. They know when the shot goes in or not. If the rebounders run away, the shot goes in. No dunks , no layups, and only turnovers in the critical moment.

I try the other tactics too though......pick and roll, give and go, post up, pushing, in-your-face dunk  , team strategies, fast break,

I love this game. I just hope I can trade players for draft picks. Do the other series have this feature yet?

also, defenders jumping has something to do with the scoring ability of the offensive player. but a delicate balance exists. Smush Parker in Ben's roster gets almost everybody committed except good defensive players like Payton. and if you don't get that jump the first time, just recuycle, kick it back to a teammate then get him to pass it back to your scorer. do it again if the defender still doesn't jump.

i personally don't treat this as a bug but rather a modest equalizer coz the AI cheats in different ways too. how can u explain (in Superstar) wide open lay-ups that rattle out or gimme dunks that bounce out?

as for alex, when i played the cavs, i lost a lot of games. they're ranked 26 or 27. but when i played Orlando (ranked 9) i was like 3rd in the east. sometimes i lose bec. concentration isn't there or due to carelessness. but i like to lose sometimes coz it's more realistic. i'd like to think that i can actually win all the games if i concentrate on it really well. still has to prove that though......

a tip i could probably share. if u wanna make a three with a decent possibilty of making it, give the ball to one of your good 3p shooters(at least 80), let him dance a little to confuse his dfender (crossover , some fakes) then when ur ready, do a crossover and turbo near the rainbow line. make a lean in jumper while holding down Turbo. 3 out of 5 time it will go in. (Wagner did a 7 for 7 with this style). if it doesn't drop, there's a great chance for a foul to be called and u'll shoot three FTs. try this out.

fish for a foul while shooting a hook shot and chances, are you free throws will be high arcing.

If I play 2 min game, I can't say I win 100%. Maybe 99.99%. One mistake, one turnover, one missed shot hurt so much because the computer goes wild and makes almost every shot they take from the 4th quarter with 2 minutes left.

The longer the game, the better chances to win, I think.
