case fell through error

Postby drummond on Sun Jun 08, 2003 1:10 pm

I'm playing another franchise game with Blazers. Every time I go to the Finals against New Jersey, the case fell through error message comes up and the game exits automatically. It happens right after I click the substitution button.

It didn't happen for the first couple of years of the franchise but it is like 9 years in a row now. I'm fed up playing with substitutions by computer A.I. I want to sub players by myself like i did before.

any ideas?

thank you

I may have to start another franchise....

That error usually occurs when there's a problem with a DBF file, most likely players.dbf. A common cause is a player's primary and secondary positions. In NBA Live 2000, a player's secondary position cannot be more than one position away from their primary position.

For example, a player can be a small forward/power forward, or a small forward/shooting guard, but they cannot be a small forward/centre or small forward/point guard.

If any players in the roster you are using have their primary and secondary positions set up this way (common example, Jalen Rose and Scottie Pippen set to SF/PG), you will encounter problems.

I'm using Ben's latest patch. He changed player positions according to then substitution patterns of the team.

However i'm in the 17th franchise year. Rookies from the computer database won't have those kinds of players. I didn't edit the file during the franchise not to mention before it. I can play the game. The problem is that I should not click the substition button. I don't like the sub pattern of the computer. that's all.

Anyway I played another year. Thank god, it was Indiana who made it to the Finals. Not New Jersey. It didn't crash when I clicked substitution button.

What I think is that Ben's patch has some bugs. One of them is the waived palyers of each team still remain in the waiver list after those 17 years. Maybe the waived players in New Jersey have that position problems. I just hope New Jersey doesn't make it to the Finals every year. I will find out if there are any in New Jersey now.

thank you for the answer.

Perhaps that's the problem - there's still some data "left over" that doesn't agree with the game, hence the crash. Anyway, hopefully the error holds out for the rest of the Franchise. :)

Anyone know what else might trigger this? I'm busy converting my NBA Live 2003 seasons to 2000, it works fine except for this error. I've got a process in place that fixes up gaps <> than -1/+1 for the two positions, and am still getting an error. I thought it might have been the different birthdate format, also, but I fixed that as well. Wait, I made a mistake with the date format, I kept MM/DD/YYYY not MM/DD/YY I'll see if that makes a difference... no difference.

I think it may have to do with missing audio files, or else my duplicate references of player files. The game won't work with missing player files, so I've filled in all the blanks with your choice of Jerry West or Michael Jordan. The only alternative would be to remove the players entirely, so I hope it's not the case.

How do I get this autosub on, anyway? Or is it set by default and I just haven't noticed? :/ Can't seem to find it anywhere, but the graphics and text fall apart a little on XP.

EDIT: I fixed it. The second position needs to be a -1 if equal with the first.
