Dribble isomotion - need help desperately

Just got destroyed by my brother who was using Curry while I was using Westbrook. While he broke my ankles like 10x, all I could do was spam the shot stick looking like an utter spaz dribbling while going nowhere. I don't get it - I follow the James Harden stupid tutorial but I can never string together a coherent crossover. What's more, I can NEVER repeat the same move on command. Like if I want a basic front crossover, sometimes I'd get an inside out, sometimes I'd get a between legs crossover, sometimes I'd get a shot pullup. WTF man? I'm tired of being useless as a PG.

Just played blacktop against the CPU (westbrook v Lillard) and same crap. Lillard shook me with hesitations and crossovers while he anticipated every single stupid crossover I did. Tried using Allen Iverson and still could not put together any decent moves. Help!

By the way, this has been true in every single 2k I've played. I just suck at this isomotion crap. Biggest screwup was linking the shotstick with the isomotion stick - hold it for too long and you head fake for a shot.

maybe this tuto can help you , go to training camp and try to understand how it works , you can do a crossover with the right stick or just using the left stick.
maybe it's your camera's setting, try 2k one , it can help

^ Shake's video this year isn't nearly as good as the ones from previous years. It's not awful...just not as good. His older 2K13 through 2K15 videos are definitely worth watching.

I've only been playing NBA2K since '14. In 2K14, my ball-handling was pretty terrible. As time went on, it got a little better, then a little better. In 2K15, it improved a good deal. I began dodging defenders and getting straight to the hoop, and I was able to create space for jump shots. I'd rate my current skill as fair or just a hair above average. I'm no ankle breaker (I play SF, PF, and/or C in MyCareer), but I can regularly create space for shots and occasionally blow-by some of the better defenders in the game. (On All-star and Superstar, anyway. HoF is a whole new monster...)

One setting I changed in 2K14 (and have used ever since) was set the 'Pro-Stick Orientation' to Absolute. (I'm pretty certain Shake mentioned doing so in his 2K14/2K15 dribbling tutorials.) This was the game-changer for me, and it did wonders for my ball-handling. Left was left, right was right, up was forward, and down was backward, no matter where I was on the court or what viewing angle was used. There was no more camera angle-dependent bullsh*t!

When I wanted to perform a Step-back, I held RT and flicked down on Rt-stick, every time. I didn't matter which corner of the court I was in or what camera I was using. In-and-out and/or hesitation? Forward on Rt-Stick. Right-to-left crossover? With ball in right hand, flick Rt-stick left. Double crossover? I flicked the Rt-stick left then right or right then left, depending on where the ball was at first. Spin moves also became a lot easier to pull-off.

Ball-handling simply takes some patience and practice.

One other setting you might want change is the 'Pro Stick' setting itself, at least temporarily for practice purposes until you get the moves and their timing down. The 'Default' setting allows for balanced timing of Isomotion dribble moves and shots. Setting it to 'Dribble Moves' gives dribbling the priority and creates a delay on Pro-Stick shots. You then have to hold the stick in position slightly longer to initiate any Pro-Stick shot, so you'll have just a little more time to pull-off dribble moves. Setting it to 'Shots' does the reverse, making dribble moves harder to pull-off because shots initiate more quickly.

It's admittedly not for everyone, and you may have already tried it, but I personally prefer switching the right stick controls from Screen Relative to Absolute. I've always felt it's more intuitive for the controls to be mapped to the player's hands, regardless of their position on the court, rather than having the controls change around as they move. It's probably just because I'm more used to NBA Live's right stick controls, but I feel it makes more sense to know that moving the stick left and right will perform certain moves based on which hand the ball is in, rather than having to worry about left and right now being up and down on the stick, because of the camera angle and the player's position on the court. As a result, I've found Isomotion a bit easier to handle after making that change in the settings.

Thanks Andrew. I posted a long response but it never got posted. Basically, I've tried absolute before but switched to camera relative ONLY because the shot stick is tied to it. And if I do absolute, it feels weird when I'm going for a layup to remember which way the player is facing. Like coming at you on the right baseline, you have to remember the controls are reversed so if you wanna do a reverse layup, you need to hit left on shotstick instead of right, and that throws me off. Going away from you on the right baseline, you can click the normal right side of the shotstick and it works as expected.



Update:

Revelation!!! I was able to do the Isiah Thomas quick between legs crossovers thanks to 1) switching to Absolute and 2) (this is big) switching to low stance. Low stance means you get stripped much less and the dribble is a lot faster. Instead of looking like a dunce spamming the shotstick, you suddenly are a baller god. Also, I discovered the hesitation move and size ups in all four directions. Awesome!
