NBA 2K16 Soundtrack

Postby Kevin on Fri Jul 10, 2015 1:41 am

NBA 2K16’s soundtrack will be comprised of six in-game playlists, including three lists individually curated by each producer, an international “Around the World” playlist, the 2K Classics Mixtape featuring fan favorites from previous 2K titles, and a master playlist that includes all 50 tracks from this year’s selection. The expansive music library spans a wide range of genres, including hip-hop, electronic, pop, rock and alternative, from throwback tracks from the ‘70s through today’s Top 40, including The Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop,” Nas’ “Represent,” and Zedd’s “I Want You to Know” featuring Selena Gomez.

Gamers will also have the opportunity to listen to all-new instrumental tracks created by each producer, which will be available in-game at various points during the MyPLAYER and MyGM experiences.

“As we continue to identify ways to elevate the NBA 2K franchise for our fans, we wanted to give them more options and choices than ever before with this year’s soundtrack,” said Alfie Brody, Vice President of Marketing for NBA 2K. “By bringing these influential producers onboard, fans will be able to experience in-game music in unique, customizable ways.”

That's pretty cool. As I've said many times before, I've never really been bothered by a soundtrack in a basketball video game: there's usually a couple of songs I come to really like, maybe a couple I'm not so fond of, and at the end of the day, it kind of fades into the background anyway. But it does seem to be a sore point for some gamers, so a wider variety isn't a bad idea.

Yeah, I don't really care about the soundtrack either. I just don't get those guys that say the game will be ruined if the soundtrack isn't good.

Agreed. I get that people have strong preferences about music - mine are ecclectic, so it's rarely an issue as I said - but considering it's possible to disable songs and throw on your own music via any number of devices these days, it's puzzling as to how it can "ruin" the game.

Integration with Spotify etc. would be cool.

Or you can do that with your PS4

We won't really know for sure until the list is released, but based on their history, 2K will have a heavy dose of Top 40 hits from all genres. Basically stuff we've heard 100000 times before.

NBA Live has taken the opposite approach with MICK curating its soundtrack, and including some more obscure/underground/up-and-coming artists, and not everyone likes that, either. I think both approaches have merit: fresh and different, or popular and well-known.

I can run any music player in the background on my PC. But I meant having full integration, playing music only when it's supposed to run, applying effects in arena etc.
