Pre Game Footage Is Future Footage?

Mon Oct 26, 2015 7:41 am

Prior to games, there is some footage shown of game play between the two teams. But it's not footage from any game that has been played or could have been played. It's footage of play between the current rosters. But in the case of their first meeting in a season with those rosters...what is it supposed to be?

I just added a player to the Bulls. The Knicks and Bulls haven't played each other. Pre game, there's footage of the Bulls, with that new player, playing against the Knicks.

It's meant to be older footage, from a previous game. Because the game generates those cutscenes with the rosters in their current state, if you've made a trade or signing, or a player was actually injured during a previous match-up, there will be continuity issues.

The only way around that would be for them to load a separate scene with other teams.

Just pretend it's preseason footage.

Or save clips from every game you play dating back to the previous season, including pre-made clips from the previous season out of the box. Or a copy of the rosters from each game, so that cutscenes can be generated using them. Neither strike me as being particularly feasible.

It's because Marty McFly and Doc Brown captured future footage and got back in time to deliver it to the TV channels

And even if it was feasible, not nearly worth the effort.

Or don't show the footage. This is another example of a feature meant to create a more real experience actually creating a less real experience. It's just like the commentary. The repetition and the mistakes in commentary detract from the game play rather than add to it. Pre-game clips of game play that never happened and, in cases of roster changes, couldn't have happened detract from the game play experience.

Hey look, there's the player I just added playing with my team in a previous game against this opponent.

Announcer prior to a game: "They were 1-2 against the Bulls last season." They only played the Bulls once last season.

They could do that, but that's not really appealing to anyone who likes that part of the presentation, and isn't bothered by some continuity errors.

I don't get how those things don't bother people. People say "wow, it's so realistic". Yet the announcers say "Rose found Noah on that pick and roll for the score" as Rose takes a three pointer. That's why I turn off the commentary.

If they're going to show previous game footage featuring players that weren't on the team before the current game, why not just show 12 foot giants playing? They also weren't on the team.

This kind of stuff almost never happens to me.

Same here. I've yet to encounter any commentary bugs that bad on a regular basis. As for the pre-game cutscenes, I suppose most people like the general idea of them, and accept that there are some limitations.

The commentary mistakes happened every game when I left commentary on.

The "so and so was 1-2 against the Bulls last season", when the teams played one game in a 29 game per season franchise, happens every game in the second season.

The NBA 2K16 Phantom Menace is even worse than originally thought.

The Bulls won the title. The first game of the following season begins with a championship ring ceremony. Current rookies, who weren't on the team the previous season, received rings during the ceremony.

And some players, who was in the team last year, don't (at least in 2K15 was exactly the same situation)

"And some players, who was in the team last year, don't (at least in 2K15 was exactly the same situation)"

Do you mean players who are currently on the team and who were on the team last season? Or do you mean players no longer on the team?

If they're no longer on the team, they don't (in real life) receive rings unless their team is playing the team that won the championship.

It's odd to me that the same people who consider this unimportant think sweat is critical.

Here's another example of a commentary problem. In Play Now, the commentary gives info about the real schedule and results. As I play now, the Bulls are scheduled to play Charlotte tonight. The commentary keeps saying "The Bulls last game was a loss in Charlotte."

There are two problems:

- The commentary keeps repeating it.
- The Bulls haven't yet played Charlotte in the real schedule. Play Now commentary treats it as a game that already happened.

Does this happen if you select the Bulls vs Charlotte game from NBA Today (not Play Now)? My theory is that the Play Now game is being added to the schedule at the end of the day for presentation and audio purposes, making any games from that same day games in the "past", which causes this.

Yes, players that were on the team last year and are currently on the team. For example there are 7 players in the team that were in the team last year. During the ring ceremony they give the rings to 5 players from last year's team and to 2 rooks. 2 players from the last year's team didn't receive their rings. But it was like this in 2K15. I just wonder if this is the same this year.

Not sure, because I didn't have a chance to check with Nov 3 games.

Nov 4: I played a few minutes of games between different teams that have games tonight. The commentary about previous games was correct either in Play Now or NBA Today play.

"Never change."

Your comment is crap.
