NBA Live 16 @ E3 2015

Sun Jun 14, 2015 11:52 am

For those who may have missed previous posts in the Forum and front page bulletins, NBA Live 16 will be featured at E3 2015. We're apparently going to get a decent amount of info on the game at the event, notably via EA's press conference on Monday.

You can check out the stream of the press conference here, come Monday: http://livetoplay.ea.com/summer-2015

So damn excited for this. For the first time, I'm actually going to trust EA to produce a good game this year.

I'm sure it won't silence all the critics (and certainly not the genuine haters), and there may still be a ways to go, but they're certainly looking a lot more confident than last year. Again, very promising.

And so they should be confident, they put out a solid game in nba live 15.

I think a fact that they are making good strides is that ad mentioned at the end of the podcast about Jennings tweeting that nba live isn't going anywhere.

People are now talking about nba live again on a higher level and I think if the game on people's thoughts then that's a good thing.

Face in game via a smart phone app... that is nice.

Shot at 2k (???), stable and reliable online experience with your friends.

Game looks really nice. I'm hoping they can get me off of 2k, cause I get sick of it too quickly. The gameface app looks amazing though, much more functional then 2k's.

Key points:

- GameFaceHD
- Physics based animations that they've been working for the past couple of years
- New online game mode to be revealed (which most people guessed with the #RiseTogether hashtag
- New shot meter/system, more control than ever before
- Release date of September 29th 2015, same street date as NBA 2K16
- Expanded pick and roll controls

Shots fired. EA and 2K always trying to get each others fans, so it's nothing new.

The player movement off-ball looks great. Sean said it's dynamic and physics based so it doesn't remove your control or cause you to be stuck in animations.

Improved passing control looks good as well, but I don't think it covered the responsiveness issues between the long animations of actually making the pass, and waiting for the receiving animation to finish, which hurts the offensive flow in Live 15.

Pick and Roll game and it's defense. Wasn't that in Live 15, already?

Gameface finally. Great job using an app since it doesn't limit you to the lighting of the room the PS4 or Kinect camera is in. I'm pretty sure they had a prescanned face on that app, though, just in case something went wrong with the scan during the live conference.

Things I didn't like-
Nothing about defense, other than pick and rolls. Improving the physicality and defensibility around the rim is important or else it faces the same problem as Live 15.
Nothing about input response or movement response. Creativity gets lost in the mix when openings close because animations take too long to trigger.
Shot meter? This is not a new way of shooting.
