THREAD TO PUSH BETTER RETRO TEAMS EXPERIENCE

Thu Feb 05, 2015 7:59 pm

Heyy Guys,
Am a Huge Fan of Retro Teams esp the Late 80s, 90s and early 2000s (Specially the Jordan Years).
am starting this thread to Push 2k devs / NLSC Devs to help improve the Gameplay Experience for Retro Teams in MyLeague / MyGM.

Below are a few Issues / Features that need improvements.

1. The Uniforms of Retro Teams - shorts Donts Move / Jerseys are Stuck
2. The Court / Stadium Environments are Pale compared to Current Team Env.
3. CFs of Most Top Players (MJ, AI, etc) are worse than last year.

ALL 3 ISSUES WERE NOT THERE IN Last years 2K next gen release.
I am hoping (since 2k15 is largely based on the same Base Dev Platform) most of Last years data can be easily corralled into an update.....(maybe overreaching here!!)

4. Missing Players (Reggie Miller / Sir charles etc) - Come on HAWK23 etc...
A lotta throwbacks are being released in Myteam....is there anyway 2K can add these players in the Regular Roster update for Retro teams maybe

5. Additional Retro Teams - Raptors (Vince + T Mac), Phx suns (Barkley), Pacers (Miller), etc...
5. Retro Dornas.
6. Better Retro Stadiums

PLEASE GET THIS THREAD GOING SO THE DEVS MAY LOOK UP......

Nothing 2K can do about the missing players. Guys like Charles Barkley have been asked if they want in, and for whatever reason, 2K was turned down.

I suppose they can ask again, and I'm sure they will, but yeah, it's not like those players are missing because 2K forgot about them or didn't do the research. Frankly, it's amazing they've been able to do what they have done with all the retro teams since NBA 2K11, what with all the likeness rights they've had to secure.

Hey Andrew,
Thanks for the Comment.

First of, i agree that 2K has done a fantastic job on the retro teams (Esp in the 2k11 & 2k12 Versions - Legends / Jordan Challenges etc).
Having 4+ jordan/bulls teams bears testimony to the fact that they not only value the "star-power" but also credit & acknowledge the plays & team style that evolved over the years for the 2 time 3 peat champs.

However my request towards include Legends that were "missed-out" by 2K was more towards indie Devs like Hawk23 , RayRay.....guys who make NLSC a must know site for Basketball Video game enthusiasts.

Also my Fair criticism (i hate using that word esp as a 2k15 PC gamer since the GAME WAS SO AWESOME) is mainly directed towards the Atmosphere & detailing of games between Retro & Current teams. Its seems Lazy & Unfinished.
2k14 Next Gen Retro Felt so much better - Visually - than 2k15.

Still keeping my fingers crossed for some update

Hey TBM,

Is there however a way they can include Throwback versions they have in Myteam to be included in some roster maybe.
We are Playing with them in My team - meaning there is a CF, CB, Stats, Player detail file SOMEWHERE ON MY PC.

If we can add in a Free agent Roster / Legends Roster / Throwback Team etc... it would mean being able to play them in My GM / My league.

It would be Awesome to have - Yao , TMac, Vinsanity (Nets) etc to play with

Rgds

Just to clarify, they're not indie developers, they're modders. That's not to put down the incredible work our community can do, but there is a huge difference between modifying game files and programming/designing a game from scratch.

When it comes to modding, we're limited by the tools that can be created to modify the files, and what the game will allow. Hopefully, future PC releases can be made more modder friendly, as the old PC releases of NBA Live were.

The difference comes down to the tech that both companies are now using to get textures and models into the game. In NBA 2K15, active NBA players have their faces scanned, which is something they obviously cannot do with historic players. They could bring them in of course - barring those who have passed on, obviously - but they're not going to accurately scan in looking like they did 20 or more years ago. As such, current players are going to look a lot better than the retro players, which were created by older means. On top of that, sourcing HD photos of those old players is a lot tougher, so they're further disadvantaged when using the old method of face creation.

As far as "laziness" is concerned, I'd suggest it's simply a matter of prioritising what they're doing. The core experience is built around the current NBA, with elements such as the historic and Euroleague teams being bonus/flavour content. That's not to say they shouldn't receive any attention at all, but they're understandably lower down on the totem pole. For the developers, it's not a case of "We don't care" or "We can't be bothered", more "We don't have time, and it's not as important as doing X".

Heyy
can anyone post better config SLIDERS for a closer feel to early 90s / late 80s time
The below points of emphasis could help

1. Illegal defense
2. Hand check
3. Physical defense / Paint play (think Detroit Bad boys)
4. More Center dominant post play
5. driving in the lane
6. More frequent getting to the line
7. preference to athletic play over spot up

ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS???
