Who replaces Steve Kerr as commentator

Tue Sep 30, 2014 9:34 am

Since Steve Kerr is a coach for the Warriors i was wondering whos gonna replace him. NBA Live and ESPN have their agreement, So i was thinking whos gonna replace Steve? I like Chris Webber but i don't know who i would like to join Webber though.

Perhaps Reggie Miller, though possibly no one; there's probably a chance that it'll just be a two-man booth of Harlan and Kellogg.

I just read a tweet from Operation Sports saying Steve Kerr is still commentating but that seems really stupid. I'd rather go for Chris Webber imo.

Yeah, that's going to be somewhat immersion-breaking whenever the Warriors are playing. An odd decision, given their otherwise amazing dedication to making everything authentic and "sim".

That is odd.

I hope it's Reggie Miller.

Well, according to that report from OS, it's still Kerr.

They don't announced anything so its Harlan + Kelogg.

Thing that im gonna find weird is that i would see Kerr coaching and hear him commentating at the same time.

I'm sure next year, Kerr won't be in, but he signed as a coach in May, so it's not exactly like they had a whole development cycle to get a new commentary team.

Man, if this were NBA Live, imagine the jokes they'd have of him breaking the 4th wall

Kerr is definitely in. Nothing changes when you play with or against Golden State, he still commentates like he has a twin with the same name.

Well, in the previous NBA 2K games Kerr also commentates when you are playing with the classic Bulls teams. I guess it's ok. It will not affect gameplay.

It's just breaking some level of immersion, I guess unless you play as Warriors it won't be anything major.

I guess they didn't have enough time to get a replacement and record a bunch of new lines with them and Harlan. It's going to be odd if he mentions "coach Kerr" or something like that.

When you play as the Bulls with Kerr, as far as I know, Kerr never mentions himself, so it'll probably be the same deal with him as coach.

Kerr's commentary when playing with the classic Bulls teams is kind of an acceptable break from reality, though. In NBA's Greatest, they made light of it, and it worked because it was being presented as the current commentary team commenting on old footage. In NBA 2K13 and NBA 2K14...well, the classic teams are essentially bonus content, so it's not a big deal.

As it stands, it's not a huge issue with the current teams either, as it does take a little away from the presentation and authenticity. Even if Kerr doesn't reference himself, the others likely will, while he's supposedly sitting right next to them commentating. I'd have thought they'd just drop him from the commentary in light of his coaching gig, if they didn't have time to replace him.

If they just dropped him, they'd still have to redo all of the commentary.

Only lines that reference him.

after watching the live full game, im hearing kerr's voice. so it's still harlan, kellogg and kerr. awkward. :/

when playing gs warriors kerr should be without the broadcasting team.

Big immersion breaker for me, never really liked the trio of commentators anyway. maybe, just maybe they will update the commentary after a while like they did with Ron Artest changing his name back in the day. one can hope...

fjccommish is right all these years, 2K never cares about accurate commentary.

It's a perfect opportunity for them to mix things up with commentary for 2K16 though. Add Reggie. Remove Kellogg.

I'm just glad that they update the commentary every year. Except last year after playing 2K14(PC) for 6 months, I go and watch next-gen gameplay on YouTube and I hear a bunch of commentary lines that are not on the PC. So as long as we get the actual full commentary update this year than I will be happy. And who knows maybe when GSW are playing they could have Steve Kerr comment on how good looking their coach is or some kind of tongue-in-cheek humor like that.

Though even in the yesterday's match I recognized some lines. But maybe that's from hearing them often in 12 minute per quarter matches :D
