NBA 2K15 Mods

Thu Aug 28, 2014 8:23 am

It might be a bit early, but we can all let our imagination run wild and think about what mods we will be mostly looking forward to for NBA 2k15, based on its NG predecessor and the trailers we've seen so far. As for me the mods I'll be mostly looking forward to are:

1. Extremely detailed HD faces
I suppose the new engine will really leave enough room for modders to create faces that look so realistic it will be kind of scary (in a good way). It was quite often we saw some faces looking amazing in blender previews, and then when we installed the face ingame the result was not the same. I do believe that we had some better cyberfaces for 2K14 PC than there were in the NG version.

2. Courts
I wasn't too impressed with the NG courts' parquet floors and nets. I think we had better parquet floors and nets with some mods around here.

3. Globals
SJ, Lagoa and others did some amazing things just by editing the globals in the previous engine... one can only imagine what is possible with the new engine.

4. Soundtrack
I haven't even checked what music 2K15 will feature, but 2K has been releasing worse soundtracks as years go by, so I'll be glad to see again mods such as the "classic music soundtrack" and "NBA2k11 soundtrack".

5. SweetFX settings
I ordered a new PC so that I can play 2k15 and other games too in all their splendour. AMDFX 8350, 16GB Gskill 1866 MHz RAM, Crucial 500GB 100MX SSD... and I already have an Sapphire Radeon 7870 2GB RAM. I want to drive them all to their limits with sweetfx settings applied and every option tuned to the highest graphic quality possible.

What mods are you looking forward to the most?

1. I would doubt that the resolution of the face textures is any larger than 1024x1024. Just like how Live 08 patched faces could look better than 2K9's, I'm certain there will be faces with better resolutions created for 2K14 that look better than 2K15.

2. We will dominate 2K in the court game, no doubt.

3. We don't know what format they are using or if there will even be a "global" file to edit like that, or if we would even be able to patch/mod anything. Should be interesting, but we are 5 years into this 'generation' of PC basketball games and we still do not have a good lighting tutorial.

4. Remember that we went years without being able to modify soundtracks on PC, so I would doubt that we'd be able to edit 2K15's if the format is different. At least Steam added this to Big Picture mode http://techcrunch.com/2014/02/03/valve- ... -to-steam/

5. SweetFX/ENB will be interesting for sure.

If we can model edit, or be able to mod anything, I'll be happy. :D

Plot twist: NBA 2K15 comes with an all-around modding tool designed by Leftos himself

John would die of a heart attack. RIP.

I'm just going to throw out some ideas for modding in 2k15

Just think... if it is possible to edit soundtracks we might be able to change the dialogue in MyCareer. That would be crazy!
Since we will have access to the MyPlayer clothing maybe we could make our own exclusive clothing items.
I would love to see all the dribbling and dunking animations from the park used in a streetmod
NBDL.
WNBA.
High school mod.
Kid characters.
Tight Jerseys.

We could already change the dialogue in MyCareer in current gen 2K14. The thing is, though, that would be such a pain in the ass to do.

I wonder if we'll be able to mod Doris Burke and Ernie Johnson to be playable.

I really want to mix together the best faces from live 15 and keep the best faces from 2k15 :cheeky:

I don't think it's only about resolution. The result you see in the game is based on several different things, animations, shadows etc. And as said earlier in 2K14 we had beautiful blender previews that were unrecognisable in the game.

Agreed :)

Yes it's true, we can't know for certain yet, but the nature of this thread is quite speculative in itself. Furthermore, in console 2K14, although the graphics changed drastically, the gameplay itself was identical to the PC version , so maybe the engine is not all that different. But again, that is pure speculation.

4. Remember that we went years without being able to modify soundtracks on PC, so I would doubt that we'd be able to edit 2K15's if the format is different. At least Steam added this to Big Picture mode http://techcrunch.com/2014/02/03/valve- ... -to-steam/

Well, as mentioned earlier I started this thread to see what people would like to have modded, not what will actually be able to be modded.

5. SweetFX/ENB will be interesting for sure.

Yep.

Me too. I'll be happy even with the vanilla version.

Huge improvement is that the game is running on x64 - which means it can use more then (roughly) 4GB of RAM. This was a problem for modders of Skyrim - the game sometimes ran out of memory with some very heavy modding (textures and models).
This means we have basically no limit on texture sizes.

imma back modding realistic dornas or any advertisements we know they gonna give us non stop sprint, sprite etc.. again.

Back 2k9 we waited months to have a mod tool to explore the iff files, I hope the tool comes early this time.

I wonder if we will ever be able to modify things like adding extra sliders, for example one very important slider would be "acceleration" which is different than speed and quickness, it's how fast you get going from a dead stop feet firmly planted to the ground, how many times have you had a slower man on you in a 1 on 1 situation only to not be able to blow past him like in real life because both the players accelerate identically.

Tie in a "momentum" slider as well which would be working in directional movements for example right now in 2K if a guy is going fast in one direction he can just turn any which way without any real physics restrictions, how many times have we gone on an open fast break and get caught up by defenders who instantaneously halt all their momentum, who can turn into a full sprint toward you in a split second while my guy is busy with that awkward first step burst animation, lol I hate that animation with a passion, it's like steal the ball and then they motion captured a 7 footer taking that first step/dribble with the ball after stealing it, and they used that exact motion capture for everyone, even the shortest quickest guys in the game

maybe some other sliders as well just off the top of my head a "spring jump" slider for those super freaky jumpers who are seemingly able to get up and down the air much faster than anyone else, guys like Shawn Marion

I think adding working sliders would go a long way in making this way as realistic as possible, but I doubt it's possible and I know I'm just dreaming here

What you described is agility.

I wonder if the customization in MyLeague will allow us to have a more accurate college mod... 32 second shot clock. 2 Halfs instead of 4 quarters. etc.

Then MyLeague, the Association on steroids, can be the lazy devs scapegoat for us to create our College Hoops game though they can?

Just random idea.

I think I read some time ago on a website... that in this 2k15 would be a special game mode to use with Euroleague's teams.. In my opinion it would be a fantastic new if we can use this game mode with all kind of teams! This would also organize short tournaments with mods like NCAA, or FIBA selections ... very interesting and fun!
Cheers!
