Steam doesn't report to NPD though does it? Even then, key sites and all.

I was under the impression that the PC sales were around 3-5%. But either way if you look at game sales, most of the top ten cross platform games are also on the PC.
http://gamerinvestments.com/video-game- ... -data-npd/

It costs a lot of money for a company to make a good, content rich game these days. But porting that game to another system once it's made cost a fraction of what it takes to create it and usually makes that company more money. Sometimes a lot more money. It also helps to offset the cost of making that game. Not to mention growing the fan base and increased exposure.

Mortal Kombat 9

Alan Wake

2K just needs to make sure they don't start to alienate PC consumers. Even if we are a small minority. Because once you have that reputation, it's hard to shake off. Lack of communication and support is a good way to make 2K haters. And I don't want to be a 2K hater.

Steam is a private company. It pretty much reports nothing aside from its hardware survey and its most popular games.
the Ars source is from it's Steam Gauge feature, which they calculated themselves (they explain in more detail here).

I could be wrong but I believe Take-two does.

By the way, developers make more money from your purchases on steam as opposed to retail DVDs. Although with NBA 2K being self published through Take-Two, I'm not sure how that works.

2) The PC version is the same price on Steam and Retail day one.

Even with those aside, it's still nowhere near the predicted 10%.

1) Reliable site or not. Those stats at least roughly demonstrate that most of the sales come from the Retail DVD version and not from Steam. Not to mention there are countries in the world such as India, Bangladesh, Australia, China, etc with still very poor internet connection speeds (less than 1 Mbps on average). Those people will therefore buy the Retail version as it's easy to install, no need to rely on an internet connection speed to download the game. I'm of-course lucky to have 20 Mbps here in the UK, but I still choose to buy NBA 2K on Retail DVD yearly due to it being priced cheaper.

2) The Steam price is not the same as Retail DVD, not even at a pre-order price! I google the prices every year and every year I have to order the DVD version online as it is significantly cheaper than the Steam price.
Look here, till this date Steam version of NBA 2K13 PC costs http://store.steampowered.com/app/219600/ £24.99
While PC Retail DVD version http://www.365games.co.uk/pc-games/nba-2k13-game-pc costs only £7.99 and that's with free delivery.

I bought NBA 2K11 PC DVD on release date for only £12.99 with free delivery from Play.com! While Steam version was priced at £34.99. That's more than half price. So of-course I like many would prefer buying the Retail DVD version.
It's like that every year. You will never ever see the Steam version priced cheaper than the Retail DVD version unless there were special Steam holiday sales which is futile as most of us buy the game on release date!

And if I wanted gameplay hour count, screenshot capturing, friends chat. I will use Xfire like I always do, which does the exact same job. So there's no need to buy the Steam version, especially since it doesn't even support Steam achievements for it.

Ah, here lies our miscommunication. You're in the UK. I'm in the US, where the day one price for a game is $30, whether you buy it on Steam or get the disc. That being the case, I always buy it on Steam because I've never seen a retail game get a 75% discount, but seeing that on Steam/Amazon/GreenmanGaming/even Gamestop is just the norm.

Who refuses to do any miracles. Come on Leftos, heal our ambient occlusion blindness. Heal Doris Burke so she can do half time interviews. Turn our water into next-gen Gatorade.

I thought we had ambient occlusion?

With Nvidia Inspector, we do.

Jao did a nice video on how to turn it on with nvidia inspector with 2K13. But to my knowledge it doesn't work with nVidia drivers anymore. Even when it did work it gives a pretty bit hit to performance in my opinion. Probably because it hasn't been optimized for the game on a PC.

It works perfectly fine for me, and most people for that matter.

I don't know about any update but who's replacing Stever Kerr in the commentary team?

Please for the love of all that is Leftos and holy don't let it be Shaq.

I'd rather have Reggie Miller than Shaq in commentary. Lesser of two evils.

Couldn't agree more. Please no Shaq.

I would've loved to have Chuck but it probably is gonna be Shaq

Reggie Miller would be the worst in my opinion. Though I wouldn't be thrilled about Shaq either. If they can't get anyone competent, just stick with Harlan and Kellogg.

According to a poll taken with over 4000 votes, most people prefer Reggie Miller. With Chris Webber in second.

Neither one have ever signed over their likeness for any of the classic teams before.

Wasn't Webber in 2K12? Getting him on the commentary team would be much better for people's ears and sanity than Miller and it would probably get him back in the game as a classic player as well. Unlikely, but I'd like that.

Oh that's right, it was a preorder bonus for 2K12 wasn't it? He was in the game but he had to be unlocked along with his teams. Or maybe it was a mod.....My memory fails me.

But C-Webb was the man back in the day.

Gamescom is days away. I hope there will be some 2k15 news for PC..

Just more speculation but I did notice this while looking at the Gamescom 2014 wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamescom#Gamescom_2014

2k15 is listed for PC with PS4 and XB1 with no mention of last gen. Just a wikipedia entry so its nothing incriminating but I thought it was interesting and maybe a sign theyre showing the game at gamescom with the current gen versions.

ok thats at least a little bit encouraging to see them List PC in the same breath as XBONE and PS4

while this is by no means a hard clue,... its finally a good sign at least

we can still hope
