My Prior 2k Experience: I played NBA 2k9-2k13, but opted not to buy 2k14 as I am a PC gamer.
--Now for my impressions so far--
Pros
+ Huge upgrade overall from 2k13.
+ Offense is much more realistic than any 2k I've played yet. You definitely aren't going to just jack up 3's or run into the lane and score. There is some strategy to scoring. Though, post moves are still nasty effective (which is good).
+ Menu system is awesome. The games' gui in general is just beautiful.
+ Game is quite immersive with it's pregame (while you are loading up the game) talks, halftime coach talks, and other details.
+ Seems optimized pretty well. I'm running it on a 2 year old gaming laptop and it runs just fine.
+ It takes a little time to make your player better, but for the most part you really feel the affects of your purchases on your stats and such.
+ Gameplay commentary is above average.
+ AI plays the game pretty well. Games tend to be tight, and with 9-10 minute quarters the scoring is realistic. Games tend to play out as expected with closer results than provided in the past.
+ Dunks, crossovers, and even layups are really rewarding. Sometime's I'm left jaw dropped by what an AI player did or such. Putbacks can be emphatic as well.
+ I'm yet to see an un-blockable animation.
+ New shot meter rocks, and shooting in general just feels right.
+ Legendary really is a hell of a challenge. Even with a 99 3 point rating you aren't going to be able to pop a 3 whenever you feel like it, and the AI's help defense will make you work for a shot.
+ Graphics are solid.
+ I can dig the variety of things to do between MyTeam, MyGM, MyPlayer, and MyLeague. I find it hilarious that they allow you to earn VC in myGM games that you import a custom roster into. As you earn VC from the games.
+ I love the overall lower player ratings this year. Was desperately needed and allows for clear differentiation between the tiers of players.
+ Rebounding makes sense now. No more bullshit in that department.
Cons
- User Defense is INCREDIBLY hard to play. Basically, to be effective you have to pretend you are in zone and rely on (or spam) the double team button to make up for your utter inability to stick to the AI players. This takes quite a while to get down and can be really frustrating at first.
- The voice acting done by the players is LOLworthy at best.
- Not a huge fan of the sound track.
- Defense has to be listed twice, as it really is a huge minus right now. Note: your teammates will play D, but you will suck at it, especially against PG's who drive frequently (ie: Derrick Rose who is frigen impossible to stop)
- 3 point shooting may be a tad too difficult? Seems like the AI has a MUCH easier time making 3's than you do. That stated, it leads to realistic FG ratings all around.
