This is exactly what I think it is.

Or cmaybe they said it like this.
2k Sports wrote:We are cutting off MyCareer and MyTeam from PC. Enjoy MyLeague, suckers.
Which is fine for me, tbh.

Well, you may be fine with that. But definitely not me like the majority of people I know who play NBA 2K on PC.

They are not gonna cut anything. Its probably something with Online-Play or removed Pay2Win in MyTeam.
Mon Sep 15, 2014 1:41 am
i don't think they gonna cut anything on PC version considering the price is 59.99$

I think it might be something modding community related or DRM.

I swear, if Leftos (or the Dev Team) included a mod tool, I'll probably shit myself. Leftos, work your magic and the modders will praise your glorious beard for doing so.

Does it seem like something that would be in their interest to do? They barely comment about modding and try to quickly segue to something else when asked, as if it's taboo. I think there could be legal issue(s) if they were to officially support modding even if they wanted to, so I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Why legal issues? Bethesda officially supports modding for a long time now and I don't see why they would get into trouble. Same goes for Valve - they even made a fortune on some mods.
They would just have to make lawyer-proof eula, which would mean that any copyright/licence infrigement modders do aren't in any way endorsed and 2K/VC aren't responsible for them.

Big studios are all about money, and almost every single big studio feels like there's absolutely no money to be made on the PC... the only ones that have the loyalty of PC gamers are studios like the ones who make the Witcher series and other similar games who have a strong following on the PC....
but guys like 2K and EA, they despise the PC platform and only utilize it when they've run out of excuses, which is why I fully expect EA to come with Live 16 for the PC next year now that "Ignite" is running on Fifa on the PC
I am still hopeful since the guy few posts above me mentions and its a very good point, how could they cut anything when the price is still the full $60 just the same as the consoles, there would be quite a bit of negativity towards them if they tried pulling something.
So it's why I'm hoping it's some kind of addition that would only work for PC gamers, I mean it would make all the sense in the world not just for our pleasure as PC gamers, but for their financial bottom line as well. Because if they're smart about it,
they would win us over as PC gamers and establish an even more solid base if they gave us something like a 4k texture pack which seems to be the hype nowadays, imagine if we got a 4k texture pack direct from 2K

Yeah but this is a sports game with all sorts of official licensing agreements, that they sell for profit.
For example, let's say they include officially supported all in one modding kit. Madison Square Garden not in the game because they couldn't get the rights? Put it in there with the official tool. ESPN exclusive to EA? Same deal, broadcasting graphics, scoreboard, ripped commentary from real games, etc, mod it in there with the official mod tool.
Couldn't MSG or ESPN claim that they're circumventing licensing by
enabling customers to add it in themselves which = loss of revenue for them? I'm not saying that they would actually have a case but getting sued at all is expensive =/

I don't think it works this way. You can get mods for Skyrim that allows you to get gear from assassin's creed, etc... Even Triss from Witcher as a follower - those are just more or less "lore-friendly" examples... And I don't think Bethesda ever got sued because of that - and those are sold for profit too.
I think problem with these would be if 2K was running mod marketplace like Steam does and regurarly added new content from best mods to actual official game - one big problem came up recently with CS:GO.

Well, as X1/PS4 are pretty much a bust due to their low performance (compare it to the PS3 and X360 when they came out - they shredded mainstream PCs to pieces), so they're going to make PC their showcase platform (more than before anyway).

They won't. They reassured us many times that all the features on PC will be identical to those on X1/PS4. Even after this "announcement".

What I'm saying is I don't think their situation is really comparable unless you can name another licensed sports title that has official mod tools of some kind where you can do the kind of stuff I mentioned. I can't find one so I'm assuming it's unprecedented.

Well there is OOTPB, they don't have a license from the MLB. But they make all the MLB team logos, names, rosters, parks and player pictures available at the push of a button that is actually inside the game. Not exactly the same thing I know. But there is a precedent.

Its probably the only mode is quick game and they only have 5 teams available.

Because the base game utilises a licensed entity (the NBA), as opposed to titles like Fallout and Skyrim which are Bethesda's own intellectual property, the situation is a little different.
Mon Sep 15, 2014 11:01 am
Precisely. Licensing not just by the NBA, but Adidas, Nike, Reebok, Jordan, and others. 2K probably can't support modding because they can't regulate the licensing aspect of mods when someone's likeness is created or a licensed jersey is recreated in a mod.
Mon Sep 15, 2014 4:53 pm
Again, how does that differ from being able to recreate licenced content in say Skyrim?
I think that character from a game is licenced and copyrighted stuff same as a shoe.
Mon Sep 15, 2014 5:16 pm
But the game itself isn't using someone else's license. Skyrim is Bethesda's own IP, it's own license. 2K might not be able to do mod support because the NBA would not approve of it. Bethesda has nobody to answer to. 2K does.
