My Career Attributes /Upgrades criticism

Wed Oct 08, 2014 11:01 pm

Hello all,

as I am from Europe, I cant play 2k15 yet. Anyhow I have been researching a lot on the internet, and I am really concerned about this years My Player development regarding the attributes.
I like the fact, that one cant max a Player out in all aspects, but I wish the whole thing would be much more versatile.

I will start with the example of a Center who maxes out his defensive skills. This guy will now have a 95 Rating in Steals and a 95 Rating in lateral quickness (defense). There is no Problem in that being possible (though it should be very rare and cost more VC). The Problem is, that somebody who wants to build a calssic Center with classic strength and weakneses cant build up such a Player type.
If you want to have a 90 in Shotblocks for example you will also have a rating in steals at about 90. The same Problem appears for every statbucket that includes Attributes which are usually not typical for the position u upgrade. A Center that wants to be strong will also be very fast (athletic). A Point Guard that wants to dunk like crazy will also be very strong automatically (athletic).
2k says, that in 2k15 the player types are very versatile and specialized. But in MyPlayer mode we can hardly specialise our Players. I cant even have a guy with a strong Mid Range Jumper without having a strong 3PT shot at the same time. I cant be very fast but not strong.... on no Position as both attributes are linked via the athletic bucket.

I think 2k messed up a great approach. There would have been solutions do this in much better way. I like the Idea of different buckets which u can fill up to a certain point and not any further.
But 2k should still give us Access to every single stat and not only to a bunch of stats that dont really fit together.
Another solution could be, that the stats always count in combination with the position. This means a Center with speed 95 will be very fast for a Center but still way slower than a PG. And a PG with Strength 95 would function the same way.... These are no finished concepts I am proposing here... I just think 2k could have been doing way better in this aspect of the game.

I would be interested in the opinion of others, as I havent read any criticism about this issue so far.

You have a good point. If they had allowed us to select what ratings to throw in our buckets, but with limited choices, it could have solved that problem.

One [giant] step at the time guys...
I can see the buckets splitting for the next year for more realistic players, while still having that "specialized" mindset.

This isnt a question of development to me. It is a question of realism. It is unreal, that I cant create a very good Shotblocker that isnt a very good stealer at the same time and so on. They could have easyly avoid this in 2k15 already. Considering how much they care about realism in other aspects, I could have never imagine 2k coming around with such an unrealistic solution for the player upgrades.

That is a strange approach, given their usual dedication to realism. I guess it's probably more oversight than anything else, since the bucket system is intended to be realistic. I must admit, I thought the old system was fine, but perhaps they can make this one work moving forward.

Would it have been any different if they just limited the amount of points you could increase any rating to 95 while giving you a finite amount of rating points to accumulate? That way you wouldn't be forced to put points into ratings you didn't want, while still being limited to the max of 95 for individual ratings.
