Pass fake into shooting motion

Can it be done? Every time I try to do a pass fake and then layup, (X+A, then X), the guy bobbles the ball in this spaz animation. So ridiculous because many is a time when I have a two on one online, fake the one defender out of his jock with a pass fake, then bobble the ball out of bounds. So retarded.
