Got to hand it to the 2k team - their player attributes are great this year

Mon Oct 13, 2014 3:20 pm

Obviously every person has their own unique perspective on the various NBA players, so player attributes are one of those things that are never going to please everyone. However this year i'm actually impressed with the player attributes. (i'm talking about the individual attributes, not the overall ratings).
Since i got the game I've been spending time going through the roster and making edits to various players (particularly young unproven guys) in preparation for getting stuck into MyGM mode, but this year i'm finding myself surprisingly agreeing with a lot of the ratings that are already in place. In years passed, i've felt that 2k have been a little lazy and inaccurate with their ratings, and it was a real effort to go through the roster and change it to reflect the actual NBA landscape. But this year seems like a completely different approach. They're mixing accurate proven ability with reasonable future projection very well. It makes me wonder if they have an NBA scout involved in their process or something.
It's not perfect obviously. But i think i might actually be able to trust 2k rosters for once!

Anyway just wanted to give a little shout out, in case anyone from their team stumbles across this forum.

Well, we did hire a prominent roster maker from the community, Mike, aka bedwardsroy. He's one of the most passionate, hard-working people I know. He lives and breathes roster, working on it every single day.

Well, there ya go! I wasn't around NLSC when he was making rosters i don't think, so i don't know of him, but glad to hear the roster duties are in good hands. Send Mike my commendations!

He was mostly an OS guy, but Jon had done a video with him because he really liked his work and wanted to introduce him to the NLSC community. I'll make sure he gets them, although I know he lurks these parts too as time allows.

The thing i'm impressed with the most, is that their seems to be way less guess-work with the non-quantitative ratings. In the past you could tell that the roster was just making educated guesses (i.e. particularly with on-ball defense, awareness ratings, etc). Now, it seems like there is actual player knowledge going into the rosters from people who know the player's games or watch the games, or maybe they have reliable sources in regards to player reputations, who knows. Either way, pretty chuffed

Yeah, I was super hyped when bedwardsroy19 from OS was hired. I was a PS3 player of 2K & there were no good rosters for it until he came along. His were the only rosters I used. Funnily enough I'm pretty sure he only started getting deep into roster making because he saw no good rosters for PS3 & then it went from there.

Why wouldn't this be the reason?

I have to agree with Nick, here. I've done some roster perusing, and things look very tight. And, just from playing the game now substantially, players play like themselves, and seem to have appropriate skill sets, for the most part (that's a huge understatement, as well). For PC, 2K15 is such a monumentally huge step ahead of 2K14, it makes me very enthusiastic as a gamer, and excited for what lies ahead. You couple that with the eventual (hopefully) ability for us to create actual custom rosters, and mod the graphic files, and this is a huge, huge release for 2K. (Y) (Y)

I was also extremely impressed once I dug in and looked around to see what was available for players as far as their attributes, pretty much everything imaginable, and from the little I saw it seemed to be on point.....

Aside from a few minor oddities in the body type sections like Blake Griffin's shoulder width and DeAndre Jordans wingspan being way too low on a rating out of a 100, I believe they were both under 60....

anyway, I was planning on waiting for a proper roster from one of the respected roster makers before I really dug into gameplay, but once I looked around I just started ballin cause I realized roster was damned good this time around, players are and play like who they are in real life for the most part
