NBA 2K15: Full Steam integration?

Sun Oct 05, 2014 2:59 am

I just checked the official NBA 2K15 page on Steam, and I saw at the end:
Steam wrote:PC Exclusives
• Steamworks
• Steam Achievements
• Steam Cloud

This... is... awesome, I guess.
(Or was it confirmed days/weeks/months ago?)

I'm hoping that cheating has been addressed this year now that it's integrated with Steam. I see it becoming a big problem otherwise. In the past few years the online part of NBA 2K has been so bad that it really hasn't been an issue as most didn't bother to play online. I'm hoping the online play is good this year and that safeguards have been put in place to catch & ban cheaters that try to hack the system and ruin it for everybody else.

What part of online.

The only cheating part I am aware of would be the standard 99 my players on day one. The online team play however I have not had an issue with all 2k14 long. Played this often. Save for cheese play, but that is not new nor really considered "cheating". Always happens.

I played several games where the other player could steal the ball 99% of the time or make 90% of his shots. I only played quick matches though.

Nope. Steam Works/Achievements/Cloud doesn't cover or prevent potential form of online cheating for the game.
It's VAC you're looking for and it's only for Valve games or games that use official Valve servers.

I see, well here's hoping 2K/VC has taken the necessary steps.

It does provide anti-cheat. Not sure where you got the notion that it didn't. But will 2k utilize Steamworks anti-cheat is the question.

Does VAC have issues with SweetFX?

No it does not. 2K will not have VAC. ;)

On the store page it will list Valve Anti-Cheat if the game is using it. (Look at MW2 for example.) Valve servers aren't required though for it. (MW2 being a good example again.)

But Steam Achievements that's new :cheeky:

I hope those achievements aren't only generic "score 1000000000 points with your player", but also some more unique ones like "be either passer or finisher of through the legs alley oop pass to trhough the legs finish" :D

Same achievements as Console-Versions, probably like last year.

You can't stop online cheating. You can't verify who is actually playing the game for one.

But you can make users responsible for their own accounts.

I liked how R* implemented cheat protection in Max Payne 3 - matchmaking was putting recognized cheaters to special servers just for them - so normal people were playing with normal people ach cheaters were playing with cheaters. That way everybody was happy and they didn't even needed to restrict players from playing the game they paid for.

Oh and now I remembered: If Steam is handling the microtransactions, we could be able to make enough cash by selling stuff from other games (cs go, ...) on the market :D
