The meaning of some of the attributes?

Talk about NBA 2K15 here.

The meaning of some of the attributes?

Postby Nick on Sun Oct 12, 2014 2:02 pm

I took a year off from 2k during 2k14 so forgive me if some of these were in the game last year, but some of these ratings are completely new to me. 2k games in the past have usually given explanations along with their attributes. There doesn't seem to be any explanations in 2k15 so i thought i'd throw it to the people.

What affect does the following attributes have on both live gameplay and association mode exactly?

- post control
- passing vision
- passing iq
- passing accuracy
- pass perception
- miscellaneous durability
- shot iq
- off/def consistency (is that just the same as "awareness"?)

Would love to hear from Leftos on this. Otherwise, if someone has a link that'd be great

Most of these are pretty damn self explanatory tbh.

Great, then you are the perfect candidate to explain what the differences are between passing vision and passing iq, and which aspects of gameplay and association they affect exactly...

I mean I could make assumptions on what they mean purely from reading them

From the previews I saw I assume miscellaneous durability is the durability of specific body parts (ankles, knees, back etc)

Passing and shot IQ are more of an AI thing, I think. Just how smart the defense is in those areas. Passing accuracy should be pretty self-explanatory.

Vision = seeing the floor, IQ = decision making about who to pass to and when, accuracy = how well they make do on the prior two. Pass perception I think is for the guys to be receiving the pass whether or not they're going to get the ball in the back of the head or catch it.

Consistency means how much variance there is in your play.

I'm just assuming.

Some of them are only applicable on AI or when simulating games.

So when playing a game they don't matter? What's the point of having a ton of attributes then if they don't matter in-game?

- To have better simulation results?
- Knowing what they are actually good at?

I think pass perception is more to defensive attributes, on how well your player read the pass to cut it.

While any IQ i think it is more to the AI, there I quotes the article from bleacher below:

"The Ratings

Thanks to the dev team and the new man in charge of player ratings, computer-controlled players behave more realistic on offense and defense. Mike Stauffer was brought in to revamp the player ratings. He has implemented more ratings such as defensive IQ and perimeter defensive IQ to help differentiate the good defenders from the subpar ones.

Only four players in the game have an overall rating of 90 or above. The Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James is tops at 98 and cover athlete Kevin Durant has a 95. You can see all of the player ratings here.

Follow Stauffer on Twitter to stay abreast of updates through the season."

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2221 ... updates-in

From there I think it is either affect the simulated games, or even when youre playing the games, they affect your opponent and your teammates, and most notably when youre playing career mode or youre playing a lock-player mode.

this is my opinion, though.

I really like the new attribute layout, apart from one thing: they took away shot in traffic. It would have been good to have a rating that represents how well a player can score through contact.

Maybe next year

Just to help a little:

The pass vision attribute increases the size of a players passing "window" or "cone" in which they can pass to a teammate.
The pass accuracy attribute is how on target a player can throw his pass
The pass IQ attribute is an awareness attribute that evaluates how smart a player is when it comes to his passing.

Some players may have great vision, decent accuracy, but aren't always making the smartest passes. Some players on the other hand, might not get too risky in their passes and are very smart about whether or not to make a pass but don't have great vision. The new passing ratings allow to account for a variety of different players as opposed to having a singular rating in years past

Thank you. So is there any one of the passing attributes that has a greater effect on assist numbers in sims? This is the one area that my formulas I have used in past years aren't working quite as well. I can't nail it down which attribute to tweak to get the numbers on point.

Beautiful. Thanks for stopping by and letting us know.

What about pass perception? Is that a defensive one?
Also, what does shot iq affect exactly?

Pretty sure pass perception is their ability to pick passes off and steal them. Shot IQ I believe is just like Offensive Awareness from the old games. It is how smart they are in offensive situations and knowing when to take the shot and when to pass the ball.

i think when it comes to sims, player tendency also plays a role. on how often the player tends to choose shot over pass, pass over dribble, etc.

I think Offensive Consistency is more like Off Awareness from the old games. I think Shot IQ is something different... i'm wondering if it has something to do with how often the player shoots within their strengths... I.e. a player with high Shot IQ will shoot from close range often if that's all they're good at...whereas a player with low ShotIQ will shoot from mid-range even if they suck at shooting. But that's just me guessing.

Actually my thoughts are (and it's all just guesses of course) is that Offensive Consistency is the Consistency rating from the other 2k games. Consistency always was more offensive based in the old 2k games, and thus it leads me to believe that Offensive Consistency is just that. But I agree with you on what Shot IQ actually does. I think that is exactly what Offensive Awareness did in the old 2k games.

It'd sure be nice if a developer would put together a short listing on what all of the different ratings actually mean!!
