How to make line-up changes without calling timeout or pausing?

I have seen people make line-up changes during the the flow of the game without a timeout or pausing. The line-up box comes up like it does when you call a timeout but there is no timeout called and action is still happening on the court. How do you do this?

I don't have the game, but I imagine it would be one of the D-Pad buttons.
