When downloading mods, most come in zip, rar, or 7z filetypes, which are essentially compressed folders to reduce filesize. You must first extract the iff or save files from these files before you can install them into your game. Windows has built in support for opening and extracting from zip files, whereas rar and 7z files need to be extracted with Winrar, 7-Zip, or another program.
If you look in your main NBA 2K14 folder you will notice hundreds of .iff files. These files are the game's container files for textures, models, and other game assets. Unfortunately you need to manually backup the original game files if you download mods that overwrite the original files.
To properly use a modified iff file for NBA 2K14 follow this procedure.
- 1. Extract iff files from the rar/zip file you downloaded
2. Find the original iff file in the main folder
3. Rename original iff file to back it up (ex. uh005.iff -> uh005 - Backup.iff)
4. Copy the downloaded iff files into the main folder
Save files are similar, except they should not require you to overwrite any files. To load a save file, goto the load menu in-game under options.
