To that point, if you could make use of some generic faces for the v1.0 (or perhaps V0.1, if you prefer) release, then that gives you something to play with in the meantime. Furthermore, a successful release might also encourage more modders to jump in on the project and start helping out replacing the generic faces, seeing that the framework is in place and that their work won't go to waste on a project that may never see the light of day because it's already out.
Just something to keep in mind! Unless you've already got an established team working on stuff and/or assets on hand - like the NBA 2K19 retro roster mods that Stildo33 and company are working on - it's hard to complete a detailed and completely accurate major roster mod for a game that most of the community has moved on from. If you're willing to make the most of what you've got and allow it to be an ongoing project, building on it as people step up to contribute, then retro modding is far more viable; at least far as major projects like this would be.

So right,
@ Andrew & RICH72601
I remember long ago, before i disappeared from modding for about 15 years, i started a WNBA mod for i think it was for NBA Live 2003, it could have been for 2004? Everyone who helped in the beginning, eventually disappeared, and then my days came to an end as well.
I still have all of that work on an old hard drive. (See screenshot), Wow! 20 years ago, already, time flies! brings back memories of not only the WNBA effort, but the D-league and NCAA mod from the same year i worked on.

Last year I returned to NLSC, just as a downloader and lurker, but since i couldn't find my old username or password or old posts, i look like a noob. I believe i was around from the NBA Live 2000 game with Tim Duncan on the cover to about 2007.
I also made a return to modding a couple of years ago, but only working on MVP baseball 2005. I worked on a total conversion mod all last year with about 3-4 other guys
So, what i am saying is i am willing to give a helping hand on this mod, if someone would like to get it started, and if a couple of others join in and are willing to help? This could just happen, with the technique that Andrew explained, it doesn't have to be perfect to start.
I have never modded a 2K sports product before, but i am a fast learner and pretty good once i get going at it.
I would just need a quick course on the tools needed and how they work, and whatever else i might need to know. My specialty is faces and roster work.
Let me know,
