Blender and Headshape problem

I have a cf who had dreadlocks all I want to do is take the dreadlocks off if I delete the hair in blender the file will not save and I really don't know to much about blender except what I read on here so what would be the easy way to remove the dreads from the headshape

shrink the size down and put them inside the players head, hidden.
