PC Will Have "The Balance of CG and the _____ of Next"

I was browsing the Operation Sports forums and saw a post by a user who attended the recent expo in Vegas. He had some things to say about the PC version of the game as told by Ronnie and Chris. This is the teaser he gave:

FOR THE PC GUYS... I ASKED ABOUT WHICH VERSION YALL WOULD BE GETTING (YES THIS IS ALL CAPS, DEAL WITH IT, MUST BE SAID LIKE THIS)

PC, WILL NOT BE GETTING NEXT GEN

PC, WILL NOT BE GETTING CURRENT GEN

PC, WILL BE GETTING A HYBRID OF BOTH, THE BALANCE OF CG AND THE __________ OF NEXT.

That is all I know...

I don't know what this could mean. I am kind of excited though after reading his insights and watching his gameplay vids. PC just might have some decent features this year. What do you guys think?

Probably trolling. NBA2k14 is coming out October 1st on PC. Same as current gen. All information has been it will be a current gen port. They won't add next gen features to a PC title and spoil their next gen launch, just doesn't make sense.

That's what I was thinking. However, there may be some features in next gen that are minor. I honestly don't know what to make of it, but I seriously hope it's not trolling.

I'll hope for the textures/models of next gen, but I have many doubts that it will be anything significant.

This guy isn't trolling, All the info haven't been release especially for PC. Usually PC version of games have better graphics. Also Next Gen is basically High End PC's. They could of gave us better models or textures. Something that makes the game look better. I tweeted Ronnie to see what other info we can get for PC. Also where did you see the PC version will be a current Gen port. I have seen that it wouldn't be a Next Gen Port. So people automatically assumed that it will be a current gen port. Dont assume what you dont know.

Why would 2K spoil their next gen launch and overshadow the current gen launch by releasing something from next gen on PC, which they don't place much value on in the first place? Second, I don't think it would be that simple to do a mix of current and next gen on PC, that's like a whole new game in itself, and again, on a platform (PC) which they don't place much value on. None of it makes sense.

Really isnt hard to do a mix. The game is create on a computer but programmed for the console. Assets, Such as Models, Textures etc are the same. it would be simple to put next assets on the pc version of the game. No one said it would a huge leap but something that is better than current gen. It wouldnt ruin the experience of the next gen because the game comes out October 1st. Next Gen info comes out Towards the end of September so we would know what to by then. Come on bro, dont throw negative thoughts into something that could make the game better.

Aren't you doing the exact same thing by declaring that the poster isn't trolling, though? Making an assumption about something you can't know for sure?

While it would be awesome if the PC version is next gen or has some next gen features, it seems really unlikely. It's coming out the same day as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version, it's still at the lower price point, the platform is a lower priority and the current gen features list that came out a couple of weeks back makes a point of noting features that are exclusive to the 360 and PS3. If the 360 and PS3 were the only current gen versions, there'd be no need to make that distinction. The assumption that the PC version is current gen is far from a baseless guess.

That post, on the other hand? We see that stuff happen all the time. Someone registers an account and posts a bunch of fake info, claiming to have an inside source of some kind. That's not being negative, that's just being realistic; it's very easy for anyone to put fake info out there on the Internet for the sake of trolling and it happens a lot when video games are being previewed. At the very least this is something that should be taken with a grain of salt, but what we do know about the game so far points to it being false.

Let's see if we can get confirmation just to be sure, though.

I've gone ahead and read through the thread some and yes, I do stand corrected on that. I did indeed make an assumption there.

Sure, I'd like to get more info on the situation. I'm keeping my expectations low as I'd rather be pleasantly surprised. He's obviously not trolling, my bad on that, but it just seems like there's been a miscommunication or something. With such vague details and all other signs of the PC version being a straight port from current gen, not to mention the lack of attention that the PC version usually receives, it just doesn't add up. So yeah, I'm not getting my hopes up too much.

Having said that, if it's true, it might make up a little for not getting the official patch last year.

Well it's not like it would take a whole lot to implement the graphics of next gen into the pc version. I mean think about it, the assets/art files are already there. Therefore it's not that far fetched if the claim of something next gen on pc is considered possible.

It wouldn't take a whole lot to make the tweaks to shadows and lighting that the community does every year, but it doesn't get done.

That would make me gut my thumbs off. If we cant easily convert cyberfaces to 2k14 it would be a tragedy. I went ahead and made a bunch of CH2k14 Cyberfaces. Dont say that Jao lol, you make me cry

I'd imagine they aren't redoing all the assets for both next and current gen. Just using the higher resolution ones they already work on and not compressing or shrinking as much.

So it could be possible they just include those in the PC version since they have to be ready for re-sizing down for the current gen version. Kinda like the patches for Skyrim, Sleeping Dogs, etc.

I don't honestly expect it to be too much. Until I am able to get my hands on the PS4, I am happy for whatever is new on PC. The only thing I really wanted besides the game improvements was a way to play online with my myplayer.

If people knew a little about game making, they would know that. Next Gen consoles give them a ton of space to work with. The systems have more ram for the programmers to use. Better lights and shadows, Guess what you guys more vertices to use, that means better models. Bodies will be more realistic. Cyberface modders will have more freedom to sculpt the face. Also they probably could decrease and increase different shaders.

So I guess the report about the PC version being a combination of CG and NG is correct.

We'll have CG graphics and gameplay and then we won't be having the "path to greatness" and crew mode like the NG consoles. Very nice 2K!

But still, having a PC version is way better than having nothing at all...

No nothing 'official' but when I was talking w/ LD, I asked about which version the PC was gonna get (next or current) and he said neither and both, I said "what, some sort of hybrid?" and he said "you could put it that way".

now what that means... is anyones guess right now.

I am figuring, HD textures, maybe some NG tech w/in the game, nothing to out-do the NG version though since its gonna release beforehand. Wait and see.
