Amazon will just give out Steam keys. You won't get to download the game until it's posted on Steam, which will be 1PM Eastern.

Leftos could have made it unlock at midnight like a normal game but he said you guys were jerks so he wasn't going to have that AND he was going to add bugs to the game.

I thought Amazon Digital Services is a different DD.

If it's not available at midnight, I will call Amazon to get some sort of additional discount.

Amazon does have their own service but in this case among many others, they're just selling a Steam key.

1pm Eastern aye. That sucks. Obviously not confirmed??

Re: NBA 2K14 digital release

Tue Oct 01, 2013 3:44 pm

All the past 2K games have released like this on Steam except 2K9 which was disc only.

Not confirmed, just highly assumed to be likely.

1PM Eastern/10AM Pacific is when Valve does the daily update for Steam, so if games aren't given specific release times (like recently Saints Row IV unlocked and released at midnight) they roll out then.

Yes, but then Amazon is falsely advertising. People rely on the info on their site. So they'll have to come up with an additional discount to make up for the false claim.

I'm not defending anyone, just saying what the deal is and most likely will be. There might be some clause Amazon has about third-party DRM to get around it.

Yo man just wait another hour. It's not 12Midnight in Pacific time yet, I live here and it's not Oct. 1st yet, Amazon said 12PM/PST. If it doesn't come with 10 minutes of 12midnight, then yeah, complain to them.

so should I be glued to this thread ?

i mean I got a preorder copy waiting for me tomorrow to go pick it up at gamestop (ebgames in canada) but if yall are saying Amazon will hook me up with a legit code where I can play the game in the next 2 hours, I'll dish out $30 for that no sweat....

I think I'll wait to hear from some of you guys in here before I place the order though just to be sure

and has Leftos given us any information on this topic ? if not, then why ?

I had the choice to go to Gamestop or buy via Amazon. A said 12AM Oct. If it's not available, you can bet your bippy that they will further discount this purchase.

It was only $17 thanks to some coupons from Bing searching.

So I got my Steam key from Amazon, registered it, and got a 'steam sub' that doesn't show in my library. I assume it unlocks as NBA 2K14 later today but...

Re: NBA 2K14 digital release

This is great. Fuck 2K. Every year they shit on the PC community. Steam is the EASIEST medium to release games. No logistics issues and yet it seems like they are setting a trend of delaying the game every year.

Re: NBA 2K14 digital release

Amazon is using Steam. Those who wrote it were correct.

Amazon writes "your digital game code will be available Oct 1, 12AM."

I bet they'll claim the code was available, as I already have the key, even though the game was not available.

Yep, can confirm that although I unlocked the key, nothing downloaded yet. Hope it comes out at 1PM tomorrow.

lol yeah, people are going off. Understandble to a point though, but then again I personally wasn't going to get my hopes up until I actually had the game downloaded 8-)

It'd be nice if 2K felt the sting of the comments and made the game release at midnight. It's their fault.

They won't, cause when/if the game is released later today, all those people who were complaining are going to be raving about the game. The best way to do it would definitely be to release the game for pre-download the day before at 1 pm and release the unlock key at midnight. But I guess we should be grateful that we're getting a PC version at all.

I'm as anxious to play the new game and stat modding but really, it's only a few hours (Assuming it does release at 1 PM).

No you shouldn't be, since you pay for it and you have the right to receive at least some sort of respectable service! It’s amazing that a company which produces one of the greatest sport’s simulations of all time would service its PC version in such a bad way. It’s a mess, there’s no other way to describe it. Nba 2k (pc version) is definitely a major game title (the only basketball simulation game on pc). Have you ever had these kind of release date fuck ups with any other major game title ? No, you did not and for most of them preload is available days before release date.

Re: NBA 2K14 digital release

All I'm saying is that if Steam updates at 10 am PST 1 pm EST is that really something to go burning down buildings over? No it's not. And yeah we sort of are lucky to be getting a PC version at all, at the end of the day it's about numbers. And PC doesn't do anywhere close to the numbers that the console versions do. We also pay half price or less for the game.

It's a trade off and I know there's a lot of people who would rather get the same love as the consoles and pay full price, I get that. There's only 1 really effective way to force change as a consumer and that's to not buy the game. Normally I'm all for protests and boycotts but in this case I know that if PC numbers drop drastically they're much more likely to stop releasing a PC version than to dedicate as many resources to it as they do for the console versions.

A tough dose of reality. I'm certainly anxious to get my hands on the game so don't get me wrong, I get where you're coming from, I'm just not going to let it ruin my day.

If 2k sports has issues with income from nba 2k PC sales and that is the reason why they have this half ass attitude/service towards pc version of the game then they should raise the price. I don't think the price would affect the amount of PC copies being sold since basketball fans would still buy it. I would buy it even for 100$ considering the circumstances (great game no matter what and the only baskeball sim on PC).

And all this because we have to wait a few extra hours? At the end of the day we still get a great game (as you just mentioned). And yes price does affect sales, that's sort of the main concept of economics. Someone like you or me might not care and still buy it at full price but lots of people would care, so yes units moved would go down some if price went up. In the perfect world 2k wouldn't be concerned about allocation of resources, they'd just make the absolute best game possible on all platforms, hire enough staff to provide as much after launch support as possible etc.

Believe me, I want to live in that world.

But from a business perspective they look at the return on investment for each product they make. Really the best way to get more support our way is to keep building/growing our PC community. As word gets out to casual gamers about all the amazing things the community does with the PC version, numbers go up and when numbers get high enough, the appropriate resources will be allocated to the PC version.

Freaking Steam hasn't even released the game yet, and having trouble logging in asking for verification codes and such. Should have ordered the disc version.

Just picked up the disc version....Installing now. Any questions, I'll answer.
