Earlier this week, NBA 2K14 quietly installed a server-side update that has reduced the amount of virtual currency PlayStation 4 and Xbox One gamers receive for completing owner goals in the My GM game mode.

All season milestones which had previously awarded 200 VC and 250 VC, such as selling out 32 home games or winning the NBA championship, will now yield just 100 VC once they are completed.

It is unclear whether this reduction is a temporary, unintentional bug or a permanent "fix" designed to curb the productivity of virtual currency "farmers."

Forum speculation supports that second theory, as developer Visual Concepts is undoubtedly aware that NBA 2K14's most popular user-created roster file, "Youtube: Doogshere," currently has 356,488 downloads on the PlayStation 4 -- almost twice the amount of the next most popular roster, "Official w/Transactions 3/19" (186,601 downloads).

Now that all goals give 100 VC, regardless of their difficulty, a typical season's earnings have dropped to just 1,100 VC.

So I had fun last night and finished my 3rd/4th year (i forget) MyGM with the Celtics and won it all. I rarely check how much VC I earned from a game or whatever because I know it is just going to piss me off. But last night I did look for it and I didn't notice any VC reward for winning, it wasn't an owner goal if that matters.

Again, I don't give a shit about VC since I'm not playing MyTEAM and I can now earn an entire cheaty season's worth of VC by having my daughter do the My2K14 app lottery each day. That is just fucked up, VC needs to be chalked up as a mistake.

But I assume the cost of everything in MyGM and MyTEAM remains unchanged.

VC has been an absolute disaster, showing very little goodwill to the consumer. I imagine it isn't going anywhere, but I really hope they re-think it and make the earnings/prices fairer in NBA 2K15.

All the old graphics that pop up on screen still say 200 VC or 250 VC. But when you pause the game and check your VC balance, you'll notice that the game is only handing out 100 VC per goal.

That is what makes me unsure of whether this is a bug or whether it's something more insidious, and they just couldn't be bothered to contact the art department and tweak the pop-up graphics.
