Transparency in Gimp DDS files

Postby Vespasian92 on Thu Oct 17, 2013 12:52 pm

Hey everybody. I've been spending a little time experimenting more with GIMP and 2KX recently, and I had a question about achieving the desired effects when exporting a GIMP DDS into the game.

Ex: I was learning the basics of editing the 2k14 title page images, and know how to import a basic photo (instead of Lebron with his arms raised). But I do not seem to understand the process of removing the background (such as other players, baskets, crowds, etc.) from the Demarcus Cousins photo I'm testing with. My difficulty is with getting the desired areas to be all that shows (all the unwanted areas being transparent), with the default title screen background remaining.

Side question: I understand about the required 512x512 size when importing, but I find most images end up much smaller (meaning the quality goes to hell when making them the required size). Is there something I am missing (such as creating the background manually) or do you just need to experiment until you find a suitable image?

Thanks for any advice guys :)
