I'm new to this whole PC modding thing, would like some help

I am looking to become a full time PC gamer. I would LOVE to become majorly involved in the modding community. I just have ZERO clue where to begin. I see tutorials/etc on here, but I have no idea what programs exactly to grab/etc.
What I'd like to do:
Texture mods for jerseys/shoes/courts (custom jerseys/shoes/courts).
The ability to create myself as a cyberface for MyPlayer (From what I've read you can only edit in game guys with Blender atm, so idk if I'd be able to accomplish this).
Sorry if this is basic stuff. I'm just...oblivious to this. Hopefully I can start doing this stuff full time with you guys.

The goal of my video tutorial thread is to guide anyone to being able to mod the 2K games on PC.

Each of the headers link to the tool download in our downloads database. For Jerseys/Shoes/Courts/Faces you should probably use the 3DM Mod tool (I only have 1 video on it that would apply for you, the overview). You should familiarize yourself with either GIMP or Photoshop, and their respective DDS plugins, for texture modding. I only have GIMP and only cover it in my videos since I really don't want to pay for Photoshop.
If you have questions, even basic ones, feel free to ask. Don't be afraid to use the search function of the forums either, as I'm sure someone has probably asked what you may be wondering before. Information from previous 2K games 9 times out of 10 still apply to 2K14 as well, so check out the other sections of the forum too.
