Ok that makes sense, kinda what I observed, too. He's more concerned with running the play than taking the open shot. Does he take the shot if you go under the screen in a freelance pick&roll, though? I can only remember great shooters like him or Durant still driving the ball instead of punishing me for giving them space, may be an AI issue, too or maybe they weren't freelance P&Rs.

Please comb through the rosters and post things like this. It will make it easier to fix everything at once.

I'm not 100% on what the On-Ball Defense (DEF) rating does. I believe it's the ability to stay in front of and bother a ball handler. Given that I found some weird ratings in your base roster.
There are some players known as one-on-one defensive stoppers or at least defense first players who have relatively low ratings:
Sidney Moncrief 70
Michael Cooper 70 (also only 58 DefAw)
Demarre Carroll 70
Kent Bazemore 70
Khris Middleton 70
Danny Green 75 (although high DefAw, so good team defender)
Cliff Robinson 70 (not really familiar with him)
and some other cases that made me look twice:
'05 Manu Ginobili is also only on 70
James Harden has a reputation of improving his D from terrible to passable this year, he still has a 60 but also 81 DefAw which kinda makes him the best (at least top 3) SG in your roster at team defense, which doesn't sound right.
On a similar note Harrison Barnes has 97 DefAw. I get that it comes from the Warriors' great Drtg and Bogut&Green probably deserve their 90+ DefAw, but Barnes at 97 when Iguodala has 77? Curry has 88 also. It makes sense when you want to simulate Golden State's great team D but if you plan on doing fantasy drafts (like me) it doesn't translate well.
Ricky Rubio is regarded as a very smart player and great defender (possibly more in team context than 1vs1, no expert) but he seems rather dumb (48/46 OffAw/DefAw) and a defensive liability (60 Def).
On the other hand there are a few players regarded as bad/inconsistent defenders or even turnstiles with high ratings: Mark Jackson is on 85 DEF and Dame Lillard on 75, also Westbrook on 90.
Then there's Bird at 75 and McHale at 60, like I mentioned before.
Does Rodman really deserve his 91 DefAw for '95 & '96, considering he had a reputation for operating outside of team defense and even abandoning his man to chase rebounds?
Anthony Mason ('90s Knicks & Hornets) was known as a point forward, should he have Play Initiator set to Yes?
Same Question for '05 Ginobili, Doug Christie, Jalen Rose, Grant Hill, Joe Dumars, Bulls Pippen.
This is all from the ultrarosterbase.
