A crude mock up of a behind windowed mode, er, mode

TV ratings could be based on the teams playing, their record, time and day of the game (boosts for primetime, Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday, Playoffs, etc), how close the game is, if a player is about to break a record, how close the game is (scoreboard thingy Leftos did), overtime?, etc. All updated as the game is being played.
Player wants/coach/etc would not be updated in realtime, hell, they wouldnt be updated until you reload the tool, but doing what they want could provide morale boosts. League news things with injuries, win streaks, etc. Coach, GM, happiness, Fan happiness can be reflected in the attendance parameter....fucking rabbit hole man..
It is all a matter of figuring out a few player personality metric ratings, like emotion + play4winner / Hustle, or something. Peak age is a huge addition this year to help decide if a player is beginning or ending their career. Bleh, so that is next for me, figuring out what ratings we need and how to calc them for each player. Then we can decide how to add/remove from those ratings and affect other things.

This project idea is brilliant and much like everyone else, this is exactly what I've wanted to see in Association mode for a long time. Here are a few ideas that come to mind:
You know how coaches have profiles that determine what plays they run, the pace they run their offense, how they choose to run their defense, ect.? What about profiles for GM's and owners? For a GM, you could have numbers that determine how aggressive they are at the trade deadline, what positions they prefer to build around, and whether they'd rather build a team in free agency instead of the draft. Maybe you can even give them grades that affect how often they get the better end of trades and how likely they are to find a diamond in the rough in a draft. For an owner, perhaps have sliders that determine how much money they will allow their team to take on at any point. This will give teams unique personalities and make moves much like the do in real life.
While we're talking about GM and owner profiles, what about an algorithm that handles team relocation? Maybe have a list of several big name cities that don't yet have an NBA team and if a team like Charlotte or Sacramento struggles to bring in enough revenue, an event will occur where the owner will look to sell the team. From there, the game can randomize a new owner, what profile he would have, and whether or not he will allow the team to stay in its original city. This would make the amount of money a team makes in revenue important in whether they remain in the NBA.
I'll post more if I think of anything else.

This looks amazing guys, I'd love to see it come to reality!!! KUTGW!!!

This is pretty much the best idea ever. I've been a lurker for a while but I have a lot of experience with modding a lot of the old EA NHL games.
One of the biggest things that has bugged me about the franchise mode in 2k games is the lack of realism when it comes to cap issues. Partially guaranteed/unguaranteed contracts are nowhere to be found, there are no sign and trades, and the salary cap seems to rise far too much every year. If you guys could some how account for luxury tax, and the MLE/Mini-MLE and a lot of other salary cap nuances that would be super cool. Contract wise rookie options are also offered at the wrong time in game. The team has to pick up the player option of someone on a rookie contract at the beginning of the season, not after the season of the potentially expiring year.
Another thing I've noticed is that in the real NBA centers' salaries seem to be inflated, whilst in 2k they do not. People like Pekovic enter free agency in the game and go for millions of dollars less a year than they would on the actual free agent market. It seems like every team is looking for a "legit 7 footer" to get them over the hump, and in reality they are paid more because of that. Players like Roy Hibbert and Omer Asik are perfect examples.
10 day contracts and an expanded roster for injuries a la Minnesota this year or the Portland Trail Blazers a few years ago would be awesome as well. The last thing I can think of is the ability to send guys down to the D League. Now that a lot of teams are direct affiliates or owners of D league teams, players seem to be sent down for short stints quite a lot. I know earlier in the year Portland sent down a 3 or 4 guys to play a few D league games on times when the NBA team had a longer break. Would be a cool way to aid in player development of guys who aren't playing a ton of minutes for the big club. I can probably think of 3159105 other things but I'll leave it at this for now.

This really could change the way Association is played.
Some Ideas:
- If your team dose really well, players will be willing to take less money to continue to play there. (JR Smith)
- Players waiting to come back after they've been cleared. (D. Rose)
- Select attributes boost during rivalry games (Celtics/Lakers,Heat/Celtics,Lakers/Spurs,Spurs/Mavericks)
- Players missing games for personal issues? (Family matter etc.)
- Dynamic Hot Streaks/Cold Streaks? (Deron Williams?)
EDIT: Didn't see the whole video, awesome to see that personal issues can be done. Would this be a PC only thing?

If someone went to same school/college/from same country make them form BIG 3/4. Let's say 3 UCONN players become FAs in 2013 and they are not top players and they go to let's say Magic or Bobcats. Then if there are multiple players from same colleges you can have team morale boost and happiness.

From my YouTube channel
how about some mentor-effect. like, when you have a veteran on a certain position, that a young player on that same position get's better slowly or improves more from season to season.
I promise, I'll do my reply reply soon

Something else I thought of:
A varying team boost for home court advantage. Teams like Denver, Portland, and Utah who have crazy home court environments would get more of a boost than someone like Charlotte who has no fans at all. It would also be cool if the crowd volume could be manipulated so that the teams averaging lower attendance also have realistically quieter crowds.

Haven't commented on this yet, and feel the need to. All I'll say is... This. Is. Incredible. I remember us talking about this back in '07, and to see it coming to fruition is truly something amazing. Kudos to the two of you.

Great stuff.

Didn't know about that hidden injuries and wow that would be awesome to see a player out because of suspension/personal reasons.
Can't wait for the Beta.
Mon Mar 11, 2013 1:03 pm
will this also be compatiable with 2k12????
Mon Mar 11, 2013 5:38 pm
In the pre-season, teams should play their bench warmers and rookies more. Also, if a team has clinched home court advantage for the playoffs, they should rest their stars to avoid injuries.

They should do the same thing if they're way out of the playoff hunt. "Tanking".

I am anxiously awaiting the github link. I am a programmer die hard 2k fan and want to help out.
Lets get started on this.!!

What about injuries effecting Potential?
2007 Draft for example, Oden picked before Durant. Both had loads of potential, but Odens injuries took a negative toll on his Potential/Playing, while Durant has been pretty much injury free and is now arguably the best player in the league. Just an idea

SC1211 wrote:-Unhappy players - Unhappy players should have their trade values slightly lowered to accommodate deals. Teams without another star should value future assets more (i.e. The Magic in trading Howard). Teams with 1 or 2 stars besides the unhappy player should seek compensation that features a good player to help them continue to contend (James Harden for Kevin Martin). Unhappy players should have their hustle/effort ratings lowered (Rebounding, quickness, on ball D, etc.). This could maybe be treated as a yellow injury? Then you can't trade, so have to figure out something here.

I would love things like this. Best current example is D-Cuz. I'm a die-hard Kings fan and user, and I find it way too easy to build around Cousins without the headaches. Just throw the money at re-signing him and you don't need to worry about the real-life stuff that keeps him from his superstar potential. I'd like to see some things about hurting team chemistry, random suspensions, trade demands, trade value lowering after such incidents, etc. I don't know how you can implement them in a way that isn't just random chance, but that'd still be better than none. Right now his trade value is much lower than his talent would suggest, or even lower than it used to be recently (maybe think Cousins' January perfomances, with 20s ppg, 12 or 13 rpg, 7apg, dropping his first triple-double on Boston,
(all without incidents of technicals or suspensions). That's why I really like the idea of fluctuating trade values around certain triggers and circumstances.
Maybe some positive effects from coach characteristics or veteran teammates would be a good countermeasure to lower the chance of such random triggers and negative effects of chemistry.

I'd say maybe limit such a boost to a specific draft class or era, such as Wall/Cousins/Patterson/Bledsoe, Morris Twins and T-Rob, (all on the same college team, drafted in the same year or close enough together, T-Rob and Morris twins are known to have a very close relationship, likewise with Cousins and Wall/Cousins and Patterson). Not all alumni from the same college will have such a bond and friendship. It's not as if T-Rob, Cole Aldrich, Drew Gooden, Kirk Heinrich, Mario Chalmers, etc. will be teammates with relationships
that much better than ordinary just because of the alumni. (draft years far enough apart, never played together).
A lot of great ideas here, and I hope to see this come into something. I'd help if I had the time or modding skills lol.

I just posted my excel sheet that has the Free Agency bidding, and the ranking of teams with certain factors. Would love to see this put in an application that is completely automated and imports an association file.

I need ideas with what personalities make up the NBA. I plan to figure out the ratings that would equal each personality type after.
So, what personality is Ray Allen, LeBron, Pierce, Garnett, Shaq, Griffin, Kidd, Dirk, VC, Roy, Oden, etc etc etc. Then I figure out the ratings that make up each type (emotion, play4winner, personality rating, etc), and then we can have personalities for all NBA players that can dynamically change, and of course be customizable.

How about making things like "Linsanity" drama? If a sub contribute greatly in winning 1-2 game, then his stat got huge boost and he get moved to starter and stay there if he can keep it up, if not, back to his seat again then.
And don't let out stuff like Howard drama, player want to go whinning around, talk bad, moaning like kid, play like an amateur... doing anything to get out.

Pretty much spitballing ideas here, hopefully you can sort them out and make use of some of them. I also included ideas for possible effects on ratings and such if you guys want there to be effects, or are just looking for labels and groupings for players.
Disrespected/Forgotten/Overlooked:
Think Isaiah Thomas, Damian Lillard (maybe Jared Sullinger, PJ3. Haven't seen enough in their rookie years to say for sure though). The guys with a chip on their shoulder, with a desire to prove they belong and to get better. These guys will probably have a strong work ethic in order to achieve their goals of improving and showing they belong (ex. get a boost in potential ratings). They seem to have a passion for the game and love to play it, and might be willing to accept leadership roles (true of the two main examples that come to mind, yet this might not be true for everyone. Just another idea). Possible triggers might be drafted lower than their spot in the mock draft/lower than their overall would place them or bench-sitting more than their talent deserves (possible this can be a partner reaction along with trade demands and extreme unhappiness for bench-warming. They either pout about it and want a trade, or use it as motivation to work harder).
Bomber/Fearless:
Think Marcus Thornton, J.R. Smith, Ben Gordon. The guys who are unafraid to take the shots, whether in the first quarter or in the final seconds. Maybe they aren't defined superstars, yet they know how to put up the numbers. If they are on, then give them the ball and let them work. If not, it might kill your offense as they jack up brick after brick. Defenses will close on them since they like to shoot, possibly opening up teammates if they pass it instead. Possible ideas for benefits include improved offensive ratings for teammates (both due to the defense's attention away from them, and they might feel relieved that there's someone else to take the tough bail-out shots). Might have a negative effect on other bombers/stars/ball-dominant players. Sig skills likely include microwave and/or closer.
Demonstrator/Passionate:
Think Demarcus Cousins, Andrew Bynum, Dwight Howard, Kendrick Perkins, etc. (maybe even Kobe, KD, KG, etc). The guys who wear their emotions on their sleeve, whether it's to whine to the refs or to fire themselves up. Mostly the guys near the top in techs and ejections. They might get pushed over the edge emotionally in a negative way, and throw them off their game (lowered shooting ratings in-game). Conversely they might use it and have a will to dominate the game, raising their ratings. This might be the trigger you use to determine the frequency of the random events such as suspensions. Of course, it would help to change the degrees and frequency of this (KG uses it to get into his opponents' heads, and doesn't get himself tossed from games too much. Same with Kobe and KD, if they get it at all. They aren't high on the ejections board. Cousins is the exact opposite on the other hand. He would probably have the highest risk and frequency of the negative effects that this would have).
Glue-guy/Team Player:
Think Jason Thompson, Udonis Haslem, Eric Maynor, Carl Landry. The guys who do the little things in most roles, from undervalued starter to average role-player. Not the kind to complain about anything, they just do their job and offer advice when they have the knowledge and position to do so, without causing any headaches. They support their teammates and are likely to be loyal to whatever situation they are in (whether they get moved or not), some of the first players on the bench cheering for their guys. They have a good understanding of their roles, and don't try to do too much. The kind of player every team needs one of two of, to provide a calm and loyal presence to a team in chaos (during special events like suspensions, trade demands, etc.) Might be blue-collar guys looking to rebound and play defense without caring about their own numbers. Possible increase in team chemistry and morale to teammates, probably has above-average loyalty. Might have sig skills like scrapper, lockdown D, spot-up shooter (pretty much any for specialists who have and know their defined roles).
Yes, I am aware this one seems too vague as it covers three or four different things (veteran presence, laid-back personality, loyal, blue-collar, role specialists).
This needs some defining and editing, yet the ideas are there for you to work with if you like them
Wed Mar 13, 2013 10:30 am
DEFINITELY definitely make it affect potential. DeMarcus Cousins.
If it's going to be dynamic, add sliders maybe?
Also, coaching minutes and rotations could be better with this tool.

Rumors (these could all become events too):
Trade rumors
Retirement rumors
Rumors of lineup changes
Events:
Family had a baby
Snubbed for the all star game
Snubbed for other awards (6th man etc)
When players are in the running for an award, it could give them a bonus (for being considered amongst the best)
Injury
Player was late for team practice/didnt show up for practice
Player acted out during team practice
Team goes on an excursion (sometimes coaches will take players to historic places, or do other team building activities to bring the team together, and to build morale)
Altercations (player vs player)
Infidelity (players hitting on other players wives etc)
Altercation with fans..
!!! Fan impact on game. Jazz are famous, for example, for their home court impact.
Player of the week - when announced, player gets boost
Diagnosis of a disease or some other ailment (sick, heart condition etc).
-Scenario could drag out as player / agent seeks second / third opinion
Agents leaking news/info
The agent the player signs could impact how negotiations go... relationships with the organization
Benching - Coach's DNP
D-League assignment
Trade deadline passing
Participation in some kind of all star event granted (3 point... skills challenge etc...)
Player Dispositions:
Happy go lucky - Think all the conversation that has been had about Lebron being more like Magic (that way) than Jordan. And how he lacked the killer instinct of kobe
Killer instinct (kobe/jordan)
Snarky (ray allen)
Dirty
Mean
Good sport
Hot head (demarcus cousins... gets lots of Ts, and gets ejected a lot)
All star baby attitude (wants every call, and whines when he doesn't get the call)
Wed Mar 13, 2013 11:26 am
Some sortmof Home Court Advantage would be cool. Quantifiable, and varying by team.
Wed Mar 13, 2013 11:28 am
Also...
Regarding contracts... when players think they are worth more than they really are, or than what the team can pay them (maybe this is impacted by the agent)
The impact of media hype (lynnsanity)
Rivalry games - Who steps up in these, and who doesn't?
Home vs away - ive heard it said a ton that roll players play better at home, stars rise to the occasion.
technical - when it happens, what does it do to the team? Does it matter who does it? If its the coach (defending a player/arguing a call on the behalf of a player) does it boost the player? (coach has my back)
Technical - if its the same player getting tech after tech (cousins...) when the T happens, it demotivates the team?
Also, something that would be interesting... Break down what it means to "be on a run". Think NBA Jam. In NBA jam, you know that if you get three baskets in a row, you go on fire... and there is a bonus/benefit. Could there be a benefit for doing certain things/completing certain objectives vs certain teams? This could be "keys to the game" kind of things. The engine is really built into 2k13. If you look at my career mode, the challenges that pop up during the game add VC points... instead, they could do something for the player or the team. Breaking it down lets the player control that it happens.
Bonus for NOT making mistakes.
