Gaming Resolution: 1920x1080 vs 1366x768?

Postby Mile23 on Sun Feb 24, 2013 5:03 am

I wanted to upgrade my monitor to an LED display. My native resolution is currently 1280 x 1024. You may think that it is very low, but I'm used to it. In fact, I have never actually used a 1920x1080 desktop monitor. Now, if I upgrade to a 1080p LED monitor ( 21,5 ), I know that overall crispness, contrast, etc will improve, but what about gaming? I use a SAPPHIRE HD 5670 1GB GDDR5 PCIE graphics. So if I buy the 1080p or 768p ( 21,5 or 18,5 ), I obviously won't be able to game with everything on high. How the game will look and work with this configuration?

Athlon II X3 445 3.1 GhZ
8 GB RAM
SAPPHIRE HD 5670 1GB GDDR5 PCIE

... and some new monitor...

Tnx

You should be ok as long as you don't turn on antialiasing. Go for the 1080p monitor. You won't regret it.

That video card doesn't matter so much since 2k uses the processor more than anything. 5670 is a budget card but it's not like 2k has mind blowing graphics. I don't recall 2k using more than 60 percent of my 6870 in-game. The menus actually use all of my video card.

I hope that with this video card games work fine. For me, the biggest dilemma is whether I buy a monitor of 18.5 or 21.5 inches. Many people say that to me on a larger monitor to work the game worse. Is this true with this configuration?

Not true. The larger the resolution you play at, the lower the performance. You can get a bigger monitor and still play at a lower resolution if your computer can't run it well enough.

Thanks for the advice. Now I have to find the right monitor for my needs. There will be some of the middle class, that's for sure.
