All Known Blacktop Mode Information

Postby JaoSming on Sun Sep 30, 2012 2:47 am

Because it's important, dammit. Most info from Streams which were taken down

  • As seen in the capture below, you can play 1v1-5v5,
  • You cannot choose if the game is full or half court,
  • You cannot choose what point to play to,
  • No HORSE,
  • No Dunk Contest,
  • No 3 Point Contest,
  • No 21,
  • Players wear their individual team uniforms (home and away as appropriate),
  • There are at least 2 courts that the game will choose for you to play on (Rucker Day, Rooftop),
  • Despite using HOME and AWAY logos teams are called BALLERS and RINGERS,
  • You have to Purchase Star Players with VC to use them in Blacktop Mode (<100VC each),
  • Using LB/RB you can cycle the player pool between NBA/Legends/MyPlayer,
  • The 2K12 DLC's announcer MCs the game,
  • No fancy dribble moves or dunks,
  • 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 are half court and 4v4, 5v5 are full court,

And there is an Online MyPlayer 3 on 3 Blacktop Mode.

Jao, looks like 2K listens to the community and adpots requested things. They added full of fans Rucker to the Blacktop, like in one of your 2K12 mods. :) Play Initiator parameter is also editable for players this year... I gotta love the new game. :) If it is not for save files (at least 360) being quite different from the previous years'...

Well, according to 360 files, the Bank Of Names is hidden somewhere (probably compressed or even crypted at the end of file...), also intra-file linking (of names, players to teams, etc.) is completely remade, so the general algorithms have to be completely remade as well.
Still, most parameters seem to be edited like in previous years' files, unless *statement removed*. I just took a quick glance during half an hour.
Overall, the format has pretty changed, compared to NBA 2K9-2K12 and all the games of MLB series, which have very similar general structure.
Anyway, i'm waiting for the PC version, because it's easier to decode due to no garbage bytes, proper endianess, etc. So, once i have my PC copy of the game, will be able to tell something more exact. Though, i'm still working on MLB during several first days after the new NBA release, so it will be just a quick glance at first to understand the major differencies from the previous year's game.
Currently the situation looks a bit grim, but let's hope for the best! :)

Took another look at 360 ROS files before going to bed. Everything looks pretty decodable. Also like the fact, 2K Devs have not only adopted "visual" ideas like an improved Blacktop, but probably also took a look on REDitor and refreshed the linkage format, so the new one is obviously better, though adding some minor difficulties to the decoding process.

So, i'll try to make something solid this year as well, but later a bit. ;) Enjoy the default game meanwhile! (Y) As for me: i really like 2K13! The presentation, the gameplay and physics, the soundtrack... eager to try MyPlayer. :) This one gonna be a really outstanding game!

Vl@d Zola Jr., just know that I'll be here to help you with whatever you need as far as helping decoding the roster and developing REditor goes. Guess the same goes for Jao as well.

As always, I'm up for testing if need be. (Y)

As far as Blacktop is concerned, a shame it's missing the dunk contest and whatnot, but no surprises there given their approach to the All-Star Weekend content. It'd be nice to be able to customise a few more options before starting a game but at least it ranges from 1-on-1 to 5-on-5 and the automatic choice between halfcourt and fullcourt is a reasonably sensible one. It would've been good to have 3-on-3 fullcourt though, for the sake of an NBA Street mod.

I don't get why they don't give us the freedom to let us do what we want. Like for ranked matches, sure they can only make them 3v3 half court, but if we're playing with the CPU or online/offline with a friend, why can't we just make it full court. Not a big deal, but I don't get why they make these restrictions. Like there could be an NBA Jam mod if they allowed for 2v2 full court, which could be amazing. It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to give us the option of half or full.

Exactly. I want to know who is it in the developer who thought that this is a good idea  . It's like there's always something that they mess up from year to year, and what's maddening is that it's totally within their capabilities to not mess it up. Actually, in this case they had to make an active effort for this screw-up to be possible, since the option was available in 2K11. Totally no point for this restriction. (N)

Oh well, at least the fact that we have a Blacktop mode at all is already an upgrade from last year! Yaay! (I'm being sarcastic)

Vlad, i can clock some hours doing some boring tasks for REDitor if needed. Just let me know.

REDitor is the most poweful modding tool there is. The sooner that it comes out, the better for the whole community. Knowing that, i will contribute my time to help do whatever you need, like i said.

Thank you for your help offers, guys! They're really appreciated! :bowdown2:

I'll probably be quiet for the next couple of weeks, but will set up a development blog later on, so you'll be able to read of the progress made (and an impact of my university professors to its constant delays :D ), and will create a special thread here to post the most important news.
Anyway, i'm still waiting for the PC version to be released, so it will be possible to make an exact decision about this year's tool format (yes, a completely remade tool is possible with IFF intergration, but... not much things are concrete until November, probably, as they can be reconsidered, depending on how the decoding will be going).

Anyway, let's get back on topic now. :)
I'll let you know about some minor, but important, tasks, which you'll be able to help me with. Thanks again for being ready to help! Some news are coming in 2 weeks.

Vl@d Zola Jr., just do it on something other than Delphi, and I'll gladly join you in the full development process. :P

But yeah, we've gone waaaaay off-topic from talking about Blacktop.
