Turning Off Auto Updates

Postby Cod on Wed Jan 09, 2013 8:08 pm

Using the Steam version of 2k13, I realize I can uncheck "keep my game updated" to keep Steam from auto downloading patches and verifying the files. However, I'm unsure how to stop the game itself from auto updating. Can someone let me know how to do this? Or, will disabling "keep my game updated" in Steam work? I haven't been able to test the Steam method yet because I just unchecked it tonight after all my mods were erased / overwritten when it automatically verified the cache and the game downloaded a bunch of updates. I figure I can download the online data from here if the update contains something I really want.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm using the disc version so I can't verify that it will work, but that option is probably worth trying. Beyond that, I believe making the update folder write-protect will work; it'll display an error message, of course, but it should keep the files from being deleted/overwritten.

I'm not sure if Leftos' Keep My Mod tool works with the Steam version but you can also try that out here:

Uncheck that and Steam shouldn't update it.

As for the 2K sent updates, instead of logging into the MyPlayer Account put your birthday as 1/1/12 or something, it'll say you're not old enough for online features and skip that step on boot.

The auto updates are not maded by Steam, but 2k. The Uncheck thing wouldn't work.

I have a Steam version here and I use Keep my mod without troubles. Try that.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to delete the local content and all NBA 2k related stuff then start over from a fresh install. I couldn't even update courts/arenas today. I kept trying to update Phillips Arena and it kept reverting back to 2k's (same with TD Garden). I'll give y'alls suggestions a shot when I get everything installed.
