Creating Mods that DONT overwrite the NBA

Postby JaoSming on Fri Dec 03, 2010 1:23 pm

Hey guys,

One major problem with these Total Conversion projects we created in 2K10 was that they required a full 2nd installation of the game. We overwrote NBA uniform, logo, court and stadium files for really no reason when we could have forced the game to use separate files with the REDitor.

I don't want to repeat this with 2K11.

I want to help you guys make your mods switch between your mod and the NBA with a simple load of a different roster. I know there is nothing we can do if you want to include a special global, gamedata, or ball with your mod, but at the very least I want to encourage you guys to limit overwriting uniform, floor, stadium, and logo files.

Once the REDitor comes out and we can really start working on these mods let me know if you need help with this. We should probably find a program or create a batch file switcher for the global, gamedata, and other files we can't work around, but my goal is to keep everything inside the game when it comes to switching mods.
Opinions are my own.

A post of mine in that thread:

You place the JSGME tool inside the main directory of NBA 2k10. Then you create a folder called MODS. There you create a folder for each different mod you want (e.g. 1992, 1997) where you put all modded files in. If you want to play one mod go double-click on JSGME and activate the mod. JSGME will temporarily replace all original NBA 2k10 files with the modded ones. After finishing simply deactivate the mod and all the original files are restored.

Sounds good but I'd still like it if the projects didn't overwrite the team specific stuff they dont need to overwrite.

I'm guessing this is about creating new .iff files that don't share the same number as an existing one, and then having REDitor use those files, correct?

Then, should we also open up another thread to "claim" numbers, to make sure that we can keep multiple mods in the same install folder?
