1953 Minneapolis Lakers & 1955 Syracuse Nationals COMPLETE!

Postby townknave on Sat Dec 11, 2010 7:49 am

Available on 2k Share for PC under "Newest"... it's my 1953 Minneapolis Lakers feauturing their full roster with painstakingly detailed ratings and appearance.

Unfortunately retro jerseys do not work with the "export teams" function so I went with the '91 Lakers outfit so they could at least have short shorts. Anyone know a way to fix this with currently available tools? I know I could just put them on the regular Lakers team on the roster, but I want my classic teams to all be separate from the main roster file.

This also gets around that nasty problem where CAP faces look retarded when you use the "export team" function- every player on the team has a CF.

Improvements to make: (probably need REditor)

Correct jersey (light blue & yellow)
Change coach to John Kundla
Get correct draft info on players (not sure if game accepts draft dates pre-1980)

Coming up next: Either Bob Pettit's Hawks, Dolph Schayes' Sixers/Nationals or Bill Russell's Celtics.

Update: 1955 Syracuse Nationals complete. You can find it in the same place as the Lakers.

-1953 Lakers updated. No longer have short shorts, but are correctly called the Minneapolis Lakers and play in the correct city. Also now has correct coach. Just need to change the stadium and uniform and they'll be pretty much perfect. Also Jim Pollard's ratings changed to reflect his leaping ability (used to dunk from FT line before games).

Coming up next: either the '61 Hawks or the '60 Celtics

It really works great other than not being able to change the coach and jersey. The players all look really good with the CF's I gave them.

Do you know if REditor will let us get the jerseys right?

For all those guys I just looked at their pictures and browsed the ends of benches and the FA pool for scrubs that resembled the guys I was making. For an important guy on the team like say, Vern Mikkelsen, I browsed around a bit so I could get a really good likeness. With the CF I chose for him I honestly wouldn't know the difference if he was included in the game as a CF like Mikan and the various other retired legends.

For the end of the bench guys I was less selective but the process was still pretty easy, everyone in the 50's was basically a pasty white guy with the same one or two haircuts. I think I'll make some more of the earliest era teams first now that I have a good feel for the various white scrubs in the FA pool.

What sucks is having to choose between exporting my roster as the regular Lakers, the '91 Lakers, or a created team. Each has pros and cons. For the '91 Lakers I can get accurately short shorts, but can't edit the coach (to John Kundla) or city (to Minneapolis) or wear the right jersey colors. For regular Lakers I can edit the coach and city but can't get short shorts or wear the right jersey colors. With a created team I can obviously get the city and coach right, and the colors as well, but the logo is wrong and the shorts are long. I think the best choice on balance is using the regular Lakers, so I'll probably convert the team to that so they can have the right coach and officially be called the Minneapolis Lakers and have the abbreviation MNL instead of LAL. Sadly they will not look as realistic with their long socks and long shorts covering their knees.

I also made the Syracuse Nationals last night using a similar approach, though using the Created Team function. That's on 2k share now as well, under "Newest" or "Top Rated" for created teams.

Teams from that era really run, and they are fun to play with if you play that style. Thing about it, the players really shoot bad hence the reason for all the inflated rebound numbers during that era.

Good point, I need to edit the coach profiles to make these teams push the pace. I know the rebound numbers are highly inflated so I adjusted the players' rebound ratings with that in mind. I still made them shoot realistically poorly though. I simulated a full season and most players' FG% was in the 30's with Mikan in the low 40's, and the champion '53 Lakers were a lottery team. LOL. \

You can probably get by with just lowering the jump rating of the players.

I downloaded these, what causes the black arms on downloaded players? Is this just a 2k issue? In this roster it was Mikan, other dna players have the same issue.

Weird... I don't have black arms on Mikan even when I download the team off 2k share.

I wondered if this was somehow just on my end. Numerous players (50%+)in 2kshare are like that for me.

most of the legends have black arms in the original game,
you need a patch to fix their arm colors.
