The team is better. Better point guard play & more consistent production out of my star forwards. However that being said, doing better this season because I'm playing better. Maybe the personnel suits me more, maybe I'm getting better at the game.

Yep, the Bosh game-winning shot hurt. It was a game that I battled in & when Corey Brewer went down injured, I had nobody I could put on Lebron. It was a game I needed to win, but it didn't hurt as much as the 4th quarter debacle against Hornets when they got hot & I turned into the RL OKC

Houndy is correct, site is often wrong. Game has me in ninth place behind Jazz to tiebreak, but I dunno which tiebreak applies, or whether based on alphabetical order tiebreak Won't know for certain until I go through to playoffs I guess.

Would suck if I miss out like this. Blew a big 4th quarter lead against Hornets about half a dozen games back, the Heat buzzer beating loss & losing to Pistons recently, those three losses really stick out. I've just been killed with injury bug, with all my wings (Gordon, Brewer, Webster) going down or at least having to play through injury. In the end, that seems to be the difference.

I think the Gordon trade hurt my team chemistry but will be better for it next season, much like Knicks IRL.

Ahh well, if I don't make it, it's par to course for my dynasties for me to take 3 years to crack a low seed in playoffs

VANDERBILT EXORCISE DEMONS, WIN THEIR FIRST EVER MEN'S NCAA TITLE

After years of disappointing results, (1)Vanderbilt capped off a dominant NCAA Tournament by beating (4)North Carolina to win its first national title, 76-62. Final Four Most Outstanding Player, senior small forward Jaime Buford led the way for the Commodores with 23 points as he exorcised memories of bad play from last year's Tournament. He was helped by senior point guard Greg Buchanan, who had a great year and provided the veteran leadership they lacked last season, and inconsistent 7'4" sophomore centre Alonzo Warren.

(4)North Carolina had hit lightening in a bottle this tournament as junior forward Kelly Dillon carried them on his back, but Dillon couldn't get going as he was held to 14 points as Buford got the better of his opposing number. The Tarheels had made the title game by upsetting America's sweetheart, (2)BYU and their star senior shooting guard Andrew Andrew and junior big man Christopher Madsen. Meanwhile Vandy got there by narrowly squeaking by SEC rival, (2)Arkansas Razorbacks and their bruising junior big men, Jesse Brown and Mark McCloud.

Unfortunately they can't all be exciting. Vanderbilt has been a 2-seed before I believe & has been a good SEC contender for years, but have been very disappointing in the NCAA Tournaments. Last season they had a dazzling freshman in Utah Jazz starting small forward Art Burks, plus Buford & Warren, but they choked as a one seed. This season, they're still quite stacked with more experience. They benefited from a very weak upcoming NBA Draft class with not many bonafide stars, hence why Arkansas was able to make a run.

And yes, the game has seriously created a Mormon called Andrew Andrew. I personally love it It's my favourite name (for obvious reasons) duplicated. Honestly, I couldn't make up this stuff myself

2011/12 3rd TRIMESTER UPDATE (PART ONE)


Nagging injuries and a young team struggling to finish games meant that the Minnesota Timberwolves stuttered down the stretch slightly, finishing the season 12-17 to finish 40-42 (0.483). This left Minnesota tied for eighth position in the West with the Utah, but unfortunately the Jazz held the tiebreak over the Timberwolves and Minnesota once again missed out on the playoffs, this time by the slimmest of margins.

For the season, power forward Kevin Love led the way as he averaged a 20-10 for the year, and was supported strongly in the frontcourt by Michael Beasley, who showed that he has what it takes to have a long and successful NBA career. Newcomer Eric Gordon played well before injuries slowed him considerably down the stretch run, as was the case with his backups Corey Brewer and Martell Webster. The Timberwolves got solid but inconsistent play from three of its rookies, Floyd Bradley, Johan Svensson and Ricky Rubio. The main problem that was exposed to Minnesota's front office during its playoff push was its lack of quality production from its bench.

Where to now for the Timberwolves? They've taken the step from a terrible team in rebuilding phase under former coach Kurt Rambis to young and up-and-coming under the tutelage of Jay Triano. Now the next step is to solidify their base and make the playoffs in 2012/13. Anything less will be unacceptable. Minnesota has already locked up two of its three top players to long term deals in Kevin Love and Eric Gordon. Kahn must finally make a decision on the improving Michael Beasley, whose contract is now up. I'd say Kahn will first see how the NBA Draft plays out, with Minnesota holding three lottery picks (their own plus one from Toronto from the Chuck Smith-Floyd Bradley trade and the Clippers from the Jonny Flynn-Eric Gordon deal). It's looking like one of those three will be top five, which is good since the draft only goes about four deep, with a big drop-off in talent after that. You may see Kahn deal at least one or two of those three lottery picks and try to convert it into a veteran and a first round pick in next year's draft, which will be a stronger and deeper draft. Aside from that, there are a few bench players whose contracts are up, namely Martell Webster whom won't be re-signed and Jordan Hill who the team is still undecided on. Either way, it should once again be an interesting off-season in Minnesota.

HEAT WHITE HOT AS THEY TIE UP LEAGUE BEST RECORD AGAIN

Looking to repeat as NBA champions, the Miami Heat reeled off an improabable 31 game winning streak (this being the second longest such streak in NBA history behind the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers' 33 game winning streak. The Heat will have a chance to break the Lakers' long standing record next season) to end the season 62-20 and pass the Boston Celtics (59-23) in the final week of the regular season for home court advantage throughout the playoffs.
