Very nice article :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

Did you research on their stats? A lot of players in there are unknown to me.

Re: Return Of The Baltimore Claws - Historical Player Comparison

Sun Jan 31, 2010 6:52 pm

Yeah I used basketball-reference.com to compare the stats. I hadn't heard of Johnny Macknowsky or Fred Foster but everyone else I knew, they all played around the time I started following basketball.

Re: Return Of The Baltimore Claws - Historical Player Comparison

Awesome article, but I would have concentrated only on the guys who are putting up more numbers. On the contrary, it was nice to see some familiar names and that your players are comparable to some players I am familiar with. Maybe that means your team has some promise for the future.

Cool article. Love the creativity. One of my favorite associations right now. (Y) Your "star" player is a less efficient version of Latrell Sprewell though.

Thanks guys, glad you liked it..

That was the original plan but the players who came up (Thurl Bailey, Mark Eaton, Greg Anthony etc) weren't really that interesting so I figured I'd just do everyone. Next season I'll revisit it and compare the guys to see how they've changed.

Your "star" player is a less efficient version of Latrell Sprewell though.

I was wondering, how attached are you guys to the monthly player evaluations? I was thinking of changing things up and having a monthly spotlight for five selected players and their performances for the month instead of an entire team evaluation. Any thoughts?

Re: Return Of The Baltimore Claws - Historical Player Comparison

Mon Feb 01, 2010 6:16 pm

I did them for an old Raptors dynasty and did them every two months, but that would work too.

Re: Return Of The Baltimore Claws - Historical Player Comparison

Mon Feb 01, 2010 6:17 pm

Well it's going to be easy for you and for us if you only do five players than the whole team

Re: Return Of The Baltimore Claws - Historical Player Comparison

Mon Feb 01, 2010 7:30 pm

Great work on the historical comparisons (Y) I like your player evaluations but yes I think you should only do select players. Maybe do it like "Hot" vs "Cold" so 2 or 3 players that had a good month and then 2 or 3 that had a crappy month. Kinda like that Hot vs Cold thing on yahoo fantasy.

Good to see you back posting a dynasty dude, although I would much prefer a Football Manager story from you :P

Re: Return Of The Baltimore Claws - Historical Player Comparison

Mon Feb 01, 2010 8:38 pm

I was reading the old NLSC FM06 story I did in the other games stories section the other day, if I was doing that now it would be so easy to update with this comp :P

I really like the hot vs cold idea, I'm going to run with that (Y)

Re: Return Of The Baltimore Claws - Historical Player Comparison

Mon Feb 01, 2010 9:15 pm

Damn, with those comparisons your team looks like the expansion Vancouver Grizzlies

Re: Return Of The Baltimore Claws - Historical Player Comparison

Mon Feb 01, 2010 9:28 pm

yeah that was good fun that one, pretty in depth for and NLSC dynasty/sim league. Have you played FM 10? I am still thinking about getting it, didn't play 09 for as long as I did previous installments mainly because the game engine was vastly different to me and all my tactical theories I had implemented on previous versions did squat

Re: Return Of The Baltimore Claws - Historical Player Comparison

Mon Feb 01, 2010 10:44 pm

I've got FM10, it's good but 2K has kinda dragged me away from it... I'll get back into it when I'm done with my dynasty story, it'd be good if that forum section was more active though then I could just do one for FM. I think FM08 was probably my favourite all-time, wish they'd just copy that with some added enhancements.

 tomorrow (or possibly tonight) February recap
 2-3 days time: upcoming FA preview
 4-5 days: hot/cold player spotlight/evals

There's a deadlock between Gelabale and Swift for the PF spot in the game against Boston, I'll leave it up for another 12 hours so we can get a clear winner.

Dwayne Jones: 13 votes
Gelabale/Swift: 7 votes
James White: 15 votes
Rashad McCants: 14 votes
Salim Stoudamire: 11 votes

Fazekas and Payton could still get that PF spot if there was a rush of votes for them, but other than that position the rest look all-but filled. Finally you White lovers will get to see how he performs with some major minutes :P

The historical comparison is really nice. Something special I have not seen before in this section. I'd go with Swift, he just has the better size imho.

Re: Return Of The Baltimore Claws - Historical Player Comparison

I love Swift,

Any reason why (other than obvious cancer reasons) you didnt sign Steve Francis for this? I picked him up in my Celtics association after Rondo got hurt and he's been wicked productive.
