Those Grizzlies don't exist within the context of this story. The closest comparison has got to be the 2011-12 (iirc) LA Lakers who won the title as an 8 seed...

I'm talking about in real life...

Stealth and Warriors Split First 2 Games

League MVP Kevin Durant scored 40 points to lead the Seattle Stealth to a 4 point win over the young Golden State Warriors. The Stealth also got 22 points from top bench player Allen Iverson. With Jason Kidd injured, stand-in PG Jao Wu scored 17 points.

The Warriors hit back in Game 2 by limiting Durant’s touches and forcing the rock into other players’ hands. Jao Wu’s inexperience showed as he shot 5-13 from the field and made some costly turnovers down the stretch. Durant did score 28 points but could have scored a lot more if the Warriors did not double team him. Monta Ellis (25 points) and Louis Nixon (23 points, 13 assists) were the heros for Golden State in Game 2.

Game 1: SEA 119 – GSW 115 (SEA lead series 1-0)
Game 2: SEA 101 – GSW 108 (Series tied 1-1)

Durant on Golden State tying the series: "Not worried at all. This is my team baby. I’m not going to pass as much as I did tonight because we lost."

Nixon Leads Warriors Comeback

“This was a disgraceful effort tonight,” Coach George Karl slammed his team in the post game news conference before leaving after just one question.

Kevin Durant had 32 points, 7 rebounds but second leading scorer Reshawn Tyson continued his bad form with 2-10 shooting from the field, including back to back air balls in the last two minutes of the game that sealed the Stealth’s fate. After leading by double digits heading into the final quarter, the Stealth seemed to lose all sense of direction when Durant was ejected for his second technical foul.

Louis Nixon scored 17 of his 34 points in the fourth quarter and helped his side rally to a win and take a 2-1 series lead against the number 1 seeded Stealth. Nixon stated, “Once Durant was out, we knew we had a great shot of winning. We all pulled it together. It’s a great feeling.”

Game 3: GSW 102 – SEA 95 (GSW lead series 2-1)

Durant: "I told you this was my team. They can’t win without me. We will get the next one."

Jao Wu Misses Shot, Warriors Escape With Game 4 Win

No one expected Jao Wu 8 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 2-10 FG) to have the ball in his hands with seconds remaining and the game on the line. The Warriors did a good job to keep it away from Kevin Durant (31 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks) and Reshawn Tyson (18 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists) was forced to give it up to Wu. Wu took the shot but it never hit the iron or the backboard – it was an air ball. As the buzzer sounded, the Warriors began celebrating in front of their home fans. The Stealth walked off the court dejectedly.

Louis Nixon (29 points, 10 assists) was once again brilliant and this time with support from Monta Ellise (11 points, 10 assists) and Anthony Randolph (18 points, 7 rebounds). The Warriors now find themselves one game away from the Western Conference Finals. And the best regular season team is one game away from another wasted year.

Game 4: GSW 105 – SEA 102 (GSW leads series 3-1)

Nixon: "I’m not surprised that we are where we are now. We work hard as a team and it’s time that people realised that we are actually pretty good. We deserve to be here. It’s not a fluke."

Around The League

Western Conference

The Sacramento Kings were the first team through to the Western Conference Finals after an easy 4-0 sweep of the Portland Trailblazers. Moses Chara was erratic but still filled up the stat sheet one way or another.

    Game 1: 14 pts, 11 reb, 11 ast
    Game 2: 32 pts, 6 reb, 10 ast, 5 stl
    Game 3: 12 pts, 11 reb, 10 reb
    Game 4: 28 pts, 8 reb, 11 ast, 6 stl

There are concerns heading on though for Sacramento as they lost big man Al Jefferson to injury. Jefferson is nursing a broken toe after leaving midway through Game 3. At that stage, he’d collected 12 points and 7 rebounds. It’s a huge loss for the Kings as their All-Star centre was finally playing in peak condition as he racked up 25 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks in Game 1 and then 27 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks in Game 2.

The Blazers had no positives from the series except for a 50 point explosion from Brandon Roy in Game 2. Roy struggled for the entire series other than that game and raised eyebrows when he indicated that his days in Portland may be numbered. “I’m frustrated because we’ve had a lot of good runs and great squads but we just can’t get it done. Maybe I am the problem and it might be best for both parties that I play somewhere else,” he told reporters after Game 4.

The Kings will play the winner of the Stealth-Warriors series.

Jason Kidd Returns and Stealth Live To See Another Game

Jason Kidd was very much missed by his team and even at age 42, he remains a game-changing force. Kidd finished with 14 points, 12 assists, 6 rebounds and 2 steals in his first game since getting injured in the first round. For the first game of the series, the Stealth got balanced contributions from its players thanks to Kidd finding his teammates in good spots.

Kevin Durant finished with an easy 22 points, 9 rebounds. Andrew Bogut and Reshawn Tyson added 19 apiece. Allen Iverson scored 14 from off the bench.

The Warriors were led by Monta Ellis who had 22 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and Louis Nixon added 21 points and 11 assists.

Game 5: SEA 113 – GSW 93 (GSW leads series 3-2)

Kidd: "I wanted to come in and bring some stability back. My body feels great and I can’t wait to bring the series back to Seattle (in Game 7)."

Second Straight Drubbing Leads To Game Seven

The Warriors had no chance after Kevin Durant scored 25 of his 31 points in the first half. Reshawn Tyson added 25 points, Adam Morrison had 15 and Allen Iverson put up 14. Jason Kidd was once again brilliant with 12 points, 13 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Stealth Coach George Karl was so pleased with his team’s effort that he said he would give them the next day off to rest for the deciding Game 7.

The Warriors face an uphill challenge to win on Seattle’s home court. Louis Nixon had 17 points and 17 assists. Brendan Wright scored 19 points, Sasha Vujacic had 16 and Monta Ellise chipped in with 15.

Game 6: SEA 128 – GSW 115 (Series tied 3-3)

Durant on who will win Game 7: "One word. Seattle Stealth."

Team Going Through To West Final Decided By One Shot

Kevin Durant shook off a poor shooting night to score 15 fourth quarter points. He also happened to score the game winning shot at the buzzer.

After drawing level with the Stealth thanks to Monta Ellis’ driving layup with 1.7 seconds remaining, Durant would come out of a time out and hit an off-balance three pointer at the top of the key off an inbounds pass from David Lee.

Durant raised his arms up at half court to the hysteria of fans as his teammates filed past him to congratulate him. “I told you, this is my team baby,” he told everyone later on.

Durant finished with 26 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks but shot 4 for 15 for the first three quarters. He did not miss a shot in the final quarter and finished on 9 for 21 shooting from the field. Jason Kidd was once again leading the Stealth with his on-court calmness and finished with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.

Monta Ellis tried his best with 32 points and Louis Nixon completed the series with 23 points and 12 assists. The Warriors had a 12 point lead entering the first quarter but couldn’t keep the momentum going.

Game 7: SEA 102- GSW 99 (SEA wins series 4-3)

Kidd: "It’s not time to get too excited. The Kings have always been our toughest opponent. The next series is going to be very tough."

Around The League

Eastern Conference

The Chicago Bulls slowed down LeBron James in Games 3 (7 points) and 4 (8 points). However, the Cleveland Cavaliers held on to win the series in 7 games. Game 7 was disappointing as the Bulls were blown out 92-79.

The Cavs will play the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals after the Heat beat the Indiana Pacers in 7 games too. JR Smith has been Miami’s best player by far. The Heat won ugly as Dwyane Wade and Michael Beasley have struggled. Thankfully for the Heat, Ricky Rubio did not perform as he was forced to shoot as his passing options were taken away from him while Danny Granger clearly struggled with constant Heat double teams.

No Al, No Problems. Rested Kings Take Game 1

Al Jefferson may be out with a broken toe but NBA veteran Michael Redd stepped up to the challenge and poured in 31 points for the visiting Sacramento Kings. The Kings romped to a huge Game 1 win on Seattle’s home floor and silenced the Stealth home crowd.

Moses Chara was in fine form with a triple double (26 points, 13 rebounds, 12 assists) while Kings starting PG and former Seattle Stealth Russell Westbrook added 17 points and 8 assists. Chara has struggled for most of the season but played at a whole other level against Seattle. Westbrook strived as always against his former team and took advantage of Jason Kidd and Allen Iverson drawing him as defensive assignments.

The best regular season team in the NBA will need to come back in Game 2 with a stronger effort because what they showed in this game is far short of championship-calibre. Kevin Durant scored 30 points and Reshawn Tyson had 19. Jason Kidd finished with 16 points and 7 assists.

Game 1: SAC 125 – SEA 103 (SAC leads series 1-0)

Moses Chara: "I smell another choke."

Coach George Karl: "I think that it’s about time we played like contenders. If we lose this series, I think this team will go down in history as the most talented team to never win a title."

Kings Over The Stealth On Redd Game Winner

Michael Redd took the shot over Reshawn Tyson from deep. The three pointer splashed through the net and there was just 1.2 seconds left on the clock. The Kings celebrated at half court as the Stealth called a timeout. When Kevin Durant missed a potential game-tying fadeaway, the Kings got off the court as quick as they could.

The Stealth were shell shocked as they dug themselves an even bigger hole in this Western Conference Finals. They were booed off the court by their home fans and need to win at least one of the next two games to bring the series back home for a fifth game.

“This is not where we planned to be,” MVP Kevin Durant said after the game, “I tried my hardest out there tonight. I’m not getting the support and role playing that I need to get this team over the hump. But don’t worry, I will think of a way to win this series.”

Durant had 33 points, Reshawn Tyson got a double double (29 points, 11 assists) and Allen Iverson scored 15 from off the bench. For the Kings, Michael Redd led the side with 34 points, 5 rebounds. The Kings also got contributions from Moses Chara (20 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists), Rashard Lewis (17 points) and Russell Westbrook (15 points).

Game 2: SAC 102 – SEA 100 (SAC leads series 2-0)

Durant: "It’s not over yet. We just need to win four more."

Chara on his team as a 7 seed: "We all know that our seeding and season record does not reflect how good team really is."

Stealth Get An Important Win

With their backs to the wall, the Stealth finally pulled their socks up and got output from their best player, best big man, best bench player and their most wily veteran. Kevin Durant was mega efficient with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Andrew Bogut finally took advantage of an Al Jefferson-less Kings frontcourt and finished with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Allen Iverson scored 20 points and Jason Kidd had 10 points, 11 assists and 5 rebounds.

“We were finally looking like a real basketball team,” a proud and relieved Coach George Karl stated.

The Kings did not have a chance as the Stealth controlled Game 3 from start to finish. Moses Chara was at his best once again with 26 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists. Michael Redd continued his hot form with 20 points while Russell Westbrook added 17 points and 10 assists.

Game 3: SEA 120 – SAC 110 (SAC leads series 2-1)

Coach Karl: "The winner of Game 4 will win the series. All I care about is the next game."

Chara: "They had to have a win some time in the series."

Around The League

Eastern Conference Finals

The Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers are tied 1-1 after two games.
