Blazers Cruise Into Western Conference Finals

Preview | Box Score | Recap

Brandon Roy splits the double team

9 May, 2011

PORTLAND (AP) – At one point in the second quarter, Kevin Durant had forced Carlos Boozer to tumble over. Bradon Roy ran over to help Boozer up while Durant was yelling obscenities at both of them. Andrew Bogut was trying to calm Durant down in case the situation were to escalate.

It was a perfect example of how frustrating and out-of-control the Seattle Stealth’s play had become towards the end of a physically and mentally demanding postseason.

After the game, Head Coach George Karl admitted that the Stealth were just out of steam after a tough season, “I think we really played our best basketball in the second half of the season and when the playoffs came, we were just tired. We finished our season in the regular season. Playing against Portland, we’ve realized how out-of-depth our team is.”

Durant provided an alternative view on the series, “Portland isn’t that much better than us. The refs had something against us. I could feel it. But we did well considering we were disadvantaged by the bias against us.” Durant quickly added, “Plus a few of my teammates were probably not as well conditioned as they should have been. And coach made a few questionable decisions.”

Durant led all scorers with 38 points. Raja Bell, whose shooting kept Seattle in the game during the second quarter, finished with 21 points. Trevor Ariza was the only other notable player for Seattle as he and Durant combined forces to help Seattle forge a comeback and cut the difference between to two teams to single digits. Ariza scored 12 from off the bench; three of his baskets were rim-rocking dunks that had the crowd in awe.

Roy finished with 32 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists to lead the Blazers and was amply supported by Jerryd Bayless’ 15 points from off the bench as well as Steve Nash, Ben Gordon, and Greg Oden all scoring in double figures. Carlos Boozer had another quiet night, pulling down 8 rebounds but not doing much else. Oden followed up an impressive Game 4 performance with a solid 10 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 7 swats.

Portland got off to another great start as they went on a 15-0 scoring run at the start of the game. Seattle had no answers for the Blazers as the home team built an early double digit lead. The Blazers’ domination continued in the second quarter as they extended their lead with another scoring run. Bell would come back from off the bench to make some big shots in the second period to pull the Stealth back to where they were at the beginning of the quarter.

“Raja really shot the ball well in the second quarter,” Coach Karl said, “We were at danger of losing by up to 30 points but Raja breathed some life back into us.”

Bell’s shooting was able to set the stage for Durant and Ariza who came into the third quarter looking more motivated than ever. The pair were able to help Seattle make it a 1 point ball game with the score at 61-60 in Portland’s favor with 3 minutes left in the third quarter. Seattle was able to end the quarter trailing by just 3 points at 67-64. That was the closest they would get for the rest of the game though, as Portland started the quarter with back to back three pointers from Bayless and Roy. The Blazers proved too deep for the Stealth as Nash, Roy, Bayless, and Gordon each hit at least one three point shot during the final period.

As the final buzzer sounded, the Portland Trailblazers made their way quickly off of their home floor to their adoring fans while the Seattle Stealth players rallied around each other and gave each other guys and high fives as another season ended. The confetti started to pour from the rafters as the Blazers moved their focus towards their Western Conference Final.

Nash spoke of his team’s chances to make a second straight NBA Finals appearance, “We’re feeling very confident. I just hope that if we do make the NBA Finals, that we don’t (expletive) it up this time.” When questioned about who he would rather face, out of the LA Lakers and Golden State Warriors, the two-time MVP replied, “I sure hope it isn’t Kobe Bryant’s team. Having played against Kevin Durant for the past week and a bit, I am very sure that my tolerance for egotistical players has maxed out.”

Notes: The Blazers beat the Stealth in six games last season to advance to the 2010 NBA Finals… George Karl stated that his team needed a new PG to step in for Jason Kidd. Karl admitted that he had played Kidd too much for the regular season; injuries and fatigue contributed to the veteran PG to have a terrible postseason… The East’s first seeded Miami Heat advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals last night after a tight 106-101 win against the Orlando Magic…

Nooooooo you lost! Boozer was a non-factor, but the Blazers are so stacked it doesn't matter. Hopefully you end up doing a fourth season because I'm really interested to see how the next off-season will go, with KD expiring and this season's regression.

Bell really didn't play well. 7-21 shooting is pretty bad. Ty should have gotten his minutes and shots.

Damn, tough loss man I thought your going to force game 7 but as I can see Portland is way too much for your Stealth, add some depth in the off season maybe you can add me as rookie :D

Season over. Looks like you burned out. Don't know why you've been riding Raja Bell at starting SG. Always a recipe for disaster.

Okay, now it's over. I'm eager to see what you will do now. Continue this one, but you definitely need to do some great moves, because I don't think you'd like to play a mediocre season.
Or how about the my player story you had in mind?

I am for the first scenario because this is the dopest D ever made and I'd love to see it being continued. Without KD

You should find the victory bittersweet.

Ty was rubbish, he had two air balls and was terrible in his court time. He had ample opportunity as he had like 10 shots but did not make many of them. Raja was instrumental in getting us back into the game. He just jacked up heaps of shots in the last few minutes when we had lost it...

Yes, Portland was just superior... we did not have the muscle down low to contain them.

ChrisO0 wrote:Too bad your season ended that early, eventhough it was kinda predictable.

Oden had 7 blocks again...wow he is a monster down there. Durant blames everyone except himself -.-

I really hope to see another season!!

I'm happy with how my team went. At start of season, playoffs did not look at all probable... im surprised we got out of first round... lucky that Ray Lliach was hurt!

Real life Kobe is gonna hate me for picking Raja Bell.

Man, stop bitching on KD :P

Without him, we're a lottery team...

Your good friend Woody Hannes is writing a story about KD though... wonder what kinda spin (positive or negative) he will put on it...

Thanks De8!

Bassy = great young PG.

Ricky Rubio is in the draft but my plan backfired as I made the Playoffs and Milwaukee did fairly well so poor odds for a top 2 pick... I might trade up though.

And no CAP space to get a FA... all I can rely on is the MLE.

We got a good shooter. His name is Raja Bell.

He won't be traded. :P I think I will start Ty in front of him from the start of the next season.

Agreed. (Y) Very happy with that!

Was Lebron's contract not expired yet? Go get Lebron for MLE! He needs Durant to get a ring!

Finally, the Lakers won...sigh...

QUESTION

I need to know if there is much interest in this continuing? I am flipping between a fourth season and ending it to start a new association.

Re: A Legend Is Born II - Game 6 Results + Question

Mon Jan 18, 2010 11:46 am

It depends on you...with your writing skills, there would be no problem in making a greater new association :D

But for me, you can start a new one if you'll pick a different team, of course! (Y)

SEASON FOUR! SEASON FOUR! SEASON FOUR! (Don't bother making a poll because I'll create a bunch of dummy accounts and vote for a fourth season) Seriously though, this thing has the biggest following ever, and at least a dozen people are waiting on rookies. Gotta see the offseason and how you deal with the KD, Ty and PG situations.

I would pick a different team... a real NBA team. :P

The X is going to say, 'Not the Lakers!'

I'm not gonna make a poll. :P For the record, I have 16 NLSCer applications in my inbox...

If I do continue, there are some interesting subplots to offer. As you stated: KD v Ty, Kidd getting older... my team does not look like it's going to improve much though... if I do a 4th season, might need to trade depth for a star...

Thierry. wrote:I want to see how Spaghetti Bolognese plays in your league

Spag Bol should be a fringe star. :P

Go for it. You only play a fraction of the games anyway. Not sure what the 2011 free agency class has to offer, but I'm sure you've got something up your sleeve. (Y) (Try to resign KD and also get Horford somehow, then trade Lee and a couple bench dudes and picks for a young fringe all-star PG)

I would defintiely try and trade for Ricky Rubio. My two first rounders plus a player or two... but I really don't know if I would and whether it would be worth it.

KD - I will definitely resign him (even if its unpopular)

2011 free agency class - older guys I could sign to MLE would be Grant Hill... and that's about it. Everyone else is pretty shit.
