Raptors Select Clark, Martin Was Shock Riser

NEW YORK, June 25 (AP) – 21 year old Julian Martin was still the shock of the night despite his number four selection to be the worst kept secret coming into the Draft. After a series of impressive workouts, Martin was able to boost his draft stock and surprise everyone. The Charlotte Bobcats made Martin their own with the number 4 pick and are hoping that he can make the shooting guard spot his own.

Michael Jordan, President of Player Operations, said, “I have seen him play and I have been very impressed. He’s a hard worker and I hope that he can come to Charlotte and replace what he had lost with Mark (Moore).” The Bobcats were expected to be wanting to draft a SG following last season’s trading away of Mark Moore to the Charlotte Bobcats. It appears that they have had their wish come true.

Coby Clark was picked first by the Toronto Raptors, fuelling rampant rumour that Chris Bosh will now definitely soon be traded away. Clark said that he was ready to help the Raptors get back into the NBA postseason, “I know that Toronto has not been doing well in recent years. I’m honoured to be going there and trying to help this ball club win games.”

Rockets Happy With Draft Result

HOUSTON, June 25 (AP) – The Houston Rockets really wanted SF Lucius Santos but could not believe it when promising PG Christian Oliver fell to number 6. They took a gamble and selected Oliver despite having promising PG and last year’s number 2 pick Ifeayi Ndiaye on their roster. Houston couldn’t believe their luck when Santos stayed on the board when they had to pick again at 9.

Oliver led Virginia to a surprising showing during March at the NCAA tourney. His draft stock was very high and many believed that he was even going to go as high as 2 to Detroit. However, that was not to be as he dropped to number 6; a huge surprise considering that the Boston Celtics were very high on him as well. The Celtics ended up for choosing his compatriot Florian Ruf because of his pro experience overseas.

The Rockets knew that selecting Oliver was a no-brainer as he was the best player available but had to make a tough choice as they ran the risk of losing Santos to Indiana or Washington. “We were a bit worried but we got our guy in the end,” a Rockets executive said, “And we were very happy we got to pick up Oliver.”

Slater Happy With Detroit

HOUSTON, June 25 (AP) – Sam Slater is going to Detroit after the Pistons selected him with the number 2 pick of the 2013 NBA Draft. It is uncertain as to whether the Pistons will play him at SG or PG but the 6’4” guard and last year’s nation leading scorer and College Player of the Year cannot wait to hit the floor.

“I’m excited to be playing for the Pistons. I have big shoes to fill here. When I go there, I’m going to be thinking about Isaiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Chauncey Billups. I just want to be half the players that any of these guys were,” Slater said. Slater will have a tough time to earn minutes as he will have to battle either Rip Hamilton or Kirk Hinrich for a starting position.

The combo guard led George Washington to the NIT title last season and has been called the most NBA ready player of his draft class. Early indications from league followers is that he will win Rookie of the Year ahead of number 1 pick Coby Clark. The Pistons’ Dumars was pleased with the selection of Slater, “We have a great team in Detroit. We were missing the one piece to make us competitive again. We needed someone to shine from the guard spots. Rip can’t stay here forever.”

Stealth Aims For Defence, Toughness

SEATTLE, June 26 (AP) – The Seattle Stealth do not have any major holes. And any major holes resulting from expiring contracts will never have been filled via the three picks they had in the NBA Draft. Regardless of the limitations, the Stealth were able to do as best as they can by sticking to their guns and looking to improve their biggest weaknesses: defence and toughness.

A day after the NBA Draft, Stealth GM Will Sit told us that he couldn’t have had a better Draft considering the circumstances, “We’v e got three guys that we’re going to send to Summer League. We’re going to watch them carefully and provide some guidance. I think many fans will be pretty surprised with the guys we’ve picked up.” There was no doubt Sit was surprised, “I’m proud of the selections we’ve made.”

The Stealth used the last pick (30th) of the first round to pick Jamaal Garrett: a 6’10” 22 year old PF from NC State. Garrett is a solid rebounder and inside defender. Their next pick was the second pick (32nd) of the second round Peter Carpenter: a 6’7” 22 year old SF from Arizona State. Carpenter is a great shooter from distance and above-average perimeter defender.

The very last pick (60th) of the Draft also belonged to Seattle and Sit took a gamble on an Australian Rich Tyler: a 6’7” 21 year old SG. Tyler was a surprise pick and was looking likely to be starting a career in Europe before being picked up by Sit and his team. Tyler is an athletic but raw talent. Sit compared him to Trevor Ariza. “He has the potential to get where Ariza is today,” Sit stated, “I didn’t think too much of Rich to be honest. We were going to invite him for the Summer League squad but I thought that I might as well draft him. That way we have his rights.”

“There’s a huge focus on our team on the defensive end,” Sit acknowledged, “Hopefully by infusing some youth and defensive talent on this team, we will get better on that end of the floor.”

Or you are the next in line of Kwame Browns, Adam Morrisons and all the other picks he has wasted. :P

EDIT: Hondo has contacted me and wants to construct the Seattle Stealth and Sacramento Kings rosters from this Association and put it up on 2kshare for 2k11. ANyone got any thoughts on this

Great chapter. Barkley part was absolutely hilarious. Decent draft for Seattle, considering the draft position.

It would be cool to have a couple teams from this on 2KShare. Maybe Chara, Tyson and other new players' ratings (even though 2K9's rating system is different) and some shots of their faces?

Very nice Draft blurbs (Y) Love the characterisation & look forward to rest of off season coverage. Also nice to see Rockets draft a PG & SF :P

When combined with ALIB II (since II & III are a combined Association), definitely the best these boards have ever seen (Y)

The 2kshare thingy would be pretty cool imho. Might be difficult to create the players (or does 2k9 already have 2kshare?), but I'd like it.

Dare really went high in this one, but I guess he will be the 2nd Kwame :) Good to see Coby Clark feeling honored playing with Chris Hova.

I was hoping you'd like Sir Charles. Adds another character I can expose if we ever play the Suns.

I told you they had a good draft. Drafted two of the better players in the Draft.

He's not honored to play with you... he's just honored to be in Toronto.

I will decide on the 2k11 rosters at a later date. I don't think I will do it... rather the team only exists here in this thread.

Stealth Signs And Trades Former Stealth

SEATTLE, July 6 (AP) – The allure of an NBA championship was not enough to convince Trevor Ariza to stay in Seattle. The Stealth signed and traded the 28 year old Ariza to the LA Lakers in exchange for former Stealth reserve Adam Morrison.

Ariza returns to the Lakers after having played a half season stint for them in the past. The 6’8” SF averaged 6.8 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.5 apg in limited minutes for the Stealth. His contributions on the defensive end and highlight reel plays made him a Stealth fan favourite.

Incoming will be Morrison, a former number 3 pick and a dependable scorer off the bench when he was previously playing for Seattle. The 28 year old Morrison averaged 10 points a game for Seattle in his last stint in town and is coming off a 13 ppg season with the Lakers. Stealth GM Sit was happy to reacquire Morrison, “I made a deal for him when I first came here. We didn’t want to let Trevor just walk so we had to get some value back. It’s good to get Adam into a Stealth jersey again.”

Minutes might be sparse for Morrison but the former Gonzaga star is content with coming off the bench to relieve the starters and provide spot minutes as a shooter, “I’m a professional. I’ve been in this league for a while and I am ecstatic about joining a team with a legitimate shot at a championship.” Morrison has played for Charlotte, Seattle, Milwaukee and the Lakers during the course of his NBA career.
