Shaq to retire at season's end
04/12/10
On September 12th, 2008. One of the 50 greatest players ever, the most dominating force ever, and of course, a future Hall of Famer; Shaquille O'Neal of the Dallas Mavericks (then with the Phoenix Suns) had predicted his retirement two years later. Unfortunately for the NBA, Shaq is true to his word.
"I said it two years ago, I'll play out my contract and hang 'em up" O'Neal said "That's what i'm going to do. I've had a great run in the league, had a lot of success and made my mark, it's time for me to move on. This season, whether i can win another ring or not, will be my last."
O'Neal, who was drafted by the Orlando Magic but has since played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, and of course currently, the Dallas Mavericks, has career averages of 23.4 ppg, 10.9 rpg, 2.4 apg, 0.6 spg and 2.2 bpg over 18 seasons in the NBA; He is a 4 time world champion, 1 time MVP, 3 time Finals MVP, a former rookie of the year and a 14 time all-star. O'Neal established himself as one of the most, if not the most dominating center ever in the game of basketball.
"Being an educated man, I've always had things to fall back on. One of my options is, of course, law enforcement." said O'Neal when asked upon his future plans
O'Neal has long had an interest in law enforcement and went through the training with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Reserve Academy before becoming a reserve officer with the L.A. Port Police.
Boston Clinches best record
04/12/10
After a 98-75 victory against the Atlanta Hawks for their 6th straight victory, the Boston Celtics and their Big Three of KG, Pierce, and Ray Allen have clinched the leagues best regular season record with 2 games left on the schedule. By far the best in the Eastern Conference, the Celtics stand at 57-23 and will either face the Hawks or the Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs.
"We had a disappointing playoff run last season, failing to defend our championship, but this year we are ready to take it all back again" said Celtics head coach Doc Rivers "the guys are ready and motivated, and we are playing great basketball right now"
The only possible challenge to their league best record is to have it tied with the LA Lakers, who currently are 55-25 with 2 games left; If the Cs drop 2 straight and the Lakers win both games, they would be tied and the Lakers would have home court advantage in the finals due to them winning their regular season matchups.
"It ain't gonna happen" said Kevin Garnett "we ain't gonna drop 2 straight, Kobe can dream all he wants, but home court is ours, so is that trophy"
