Dribbling after a fake is a violation, called a double-dribble. That's why you can only pass or shoot. Why would you even ask this question, isn't it obvious?

You need to learn about NBA/basketball rules before you play basketball videogames.

sometimes when a player catches on the run, the game thinks he is dribbling even though the ball does not yet hit the floor. So when you shot fake the game thinks you dribbled and then shot faked, even though it doesnt appear so. If you catch at a standstill, the shot fake you should be all set. Also doing a signature gather with the prohop button will always use up your dribble.

That said, to do the fake in that video you want to do a flick flick move.

Travis Outlaw isn't even in it. :|
What the heck are you smoking, huh? :(

You can dribble after a shot fake if you haven't dribbled before the shot fake. Here's a guide to the rule...

ALLOWED: Joel Anthony receives the ball, does a shot fake immediately after receiving the ball, then dribbles again.
NOT ALLOWED: Joel Anthony receives the ball, dribbles like Iverson for a while, does a shot fake, then dribbles again. At the point he dribbles again he will be called for a violation.
NOT ALLOWED: Joel Anthony receives the ball, dribbles to the hole like LeBron but he sees that Darko Milicic is in the paint so he stops his dribble. Anthony decides to dribble again, he will be called for a violation if he does so.

Again...
