NBA 2k11 unstable fps.

Mon Jul 04, 2011 11:57 am

So i recently got a copy of nba 2k11 for my pc.And im having some trouble with my fps.Whenever i put player detail on high my fps drops to 15 or less for like 3-4 minutes then it goes back to normal even if the other settings are on low.But when i put everything else on high and player detail on medium the game runs smoothly. Here are my pc specs :

Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5200 @2.50 GHz 2.50GHz
RAM 3 GB
ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series 1GB

Also i have the latest drivers for my video card. Can someone help me out with a tweaked config or something..I`d really appreciate it. :?

i think you need to mess with the crowd settings, as more crowd members are shown on screen, it can really take a hit on FPS

I have a 4850 which is bette than the 4600, but you should be running the game fine. About 2 months ago the game started running pretty crappy after being around 50-60 fps. I upgraded my video card drivers and now it's back up.

A few things to make sure of are that no antivirus programs are trying to scan in the background, and you have enough space on your C drive for the cached replay files as writing to a fragmented disk with low space will drop the performance of the game. I've also noticed that blocking the internet can improve the performance. 2K seem to connect a lot, and when I blocked the net, I noticed smoother framerates.

Thanks for the replys.Harddisc space isnt the problem since i barely have anything on my pc.I tryd turning off my anti virus program and disabling my internet connection.Still the fps drops come and go during gameplay.I messed with the crowd settings aswell but it didnt help. Also i did a little test.I set everything on low and got about 120 fps.Than i set the player detail on high while everything else is on low and the fps dropped to 20.Douse high player detail require that much recourse?

As long as you have a dual core, you should be fine, since the cloth physics require that extra core. You didn't edit the config file did you? It has been known to cause stuttering. Make sure v sync is off, too. I think you should turn crowd to medium and turn off anti aliasing.

So it randomly drops? It sounds like something is stealing cpu time. After starting the game, ALT+TAB to windows and bring up the Windows Task Manager(CTRL+ALT+DEL). Select the processes tab and right click nba2k11.exe and set priority to high. See if that makes a difference.

The last thing would be to make a system page file on the drive NBA2K11 is installed on. Unless it's the C drive which probably already has one.

My last thought is that your Pentium Dual Core is not fast enough for the game. I assumed it was a Core2Duo, which it is not. You can always try to overclock it, as it will reach 3 Ghz with the stock cooler, or get a faster video card.

Is it high drops? Like 60 to 20 and back? If so, it might be overheating of the system that causes this, very popular

Also the crowd, yeah, if u are using Broadcast it's pretty even, but if 2k - it shows more fans when someone is bringing the ball up court that when u are past half-court..
